Newbie question: I am modeling a handle that protrudes from the top of a box. The handle outline will be cut with a 0.5 dia mill. After the handle is cut, the edges of the handle will be rounded over, from both sides, with a "rounding over bit" with a 0.125 radius. The tool can't round over flush to the top surface. How is the best way to model this? I am using ViaCad 2D/3D. When I use the blend tool it blends all the way to the surface. Thanks for your help.

Did you try the blend with the chained edges option unchecked?
Maybe you could post a pic of what you are blending?

Thanks for your reply. I have attached a file with the detail of what I am doing.
The part protruding up along y needs to be rounded over. The tool would be oriented on the Z axis. Rounding from the maximum y point to the surface in the z-x plane, a point will be reached where the edge of the round over bit will contact the surface. The root of the protrusion cannot be fully rounded rounded over. Starting from the root where the tool edge just hits the surface, the round over tapers from full to zero against the z-x surface.
I tried all the permutations of the options, with no help, though I am glad you suggested it since I didn't realize they were there.
Is the setback parameter active? What does it do?

Hi
See attached file if this is what you are looking for you can use a variable blend , option in drop down set to by position, Mark the part with .125 and 0. In the options box uncheck all options before picking edges.

The setback on the blend is for use (if required) when 3 or more edges meet.

jdi00 and Steve.M - Thanks for your replies. I tried them both. And I apologize for taking so long to look at them. I got pulled off to do other things. Jason, Thanks. I would have never guessed to try this. I don't seem to remember seeing it in the documentation. I think this is the way to go. Steve. M, Thanks. I tried your suggestion. ViaCad reports that the geometry or topology at end of blend too complex. I guess the program has some math difficulties. I tried it on an intersecting corner and it is interesting. I am not sure how you would machine this. It looks like more material is removed then without a setback. Thanks again.
