Excellent news. Just a shame that I'd probably have to sell my (dead) granny to buy it

there's a window of opportunity for your products Punch ! the big boys are all releasing well marketed Mac tools now you need more resources in the near term to audit the tools for remaining issues and turn the marketing on !

Spoke to a rep today who will get back to me today or tomorrow with pricing and availability of a full trial version. I wonder what the hardware requirements are ? Do siemens get a kick-back like SolidWorks does for only 'Certifying' workstation cards and not even listing consumer / gamer cards.

I have no idea! lol! All I know is that NX is used by both Dyson and Rolls Royce (Aerospace) NX used to be known as Unigraphics. It's also crazy money!

if pros are willing to pay 20,/30,/40,000.- bucks for NX they probably don't wanna save money using a consumer/gamer graphics card instead of a Quadro FX dedicated and able to run it...

SE is, similar to SWX or Inventor, a mid-range MCAD mainly for volume modeling in the engineering area. NX is, similar to Catia or Pro/E, a high-end CAD capable to develop e.g. 'really smooth' surfaces (continuity etc.) and much more (CAM/FEM/Rendering?) with surely a lot of modules and interfaces to EDM/PDM systems etc. avail.
NX is probably a X Window based system... which may lead to some enhanced configuration as well as an user interface not exactly the same as a native application of OSX

That's quite correct, as NX runs on the X11 server within OS X.
If you want to be 100% Mac savvy, then ideally software should be 100% Cocoa-based. For what it's worth, it looks like Rhino is 100% Cocoa- which is really great imo, as Cocoa apps offer that lovely Mac experience that people like me, often bore you non Mac users, about! :D:D ;)

Yes,
Its a pity that ViaCad / Shark are not Cocoa 100% but I guess that is the price of having such a small development team work on a cross platform app that is based on a kernal that is written by a third party.

Just found this on SolidSmack:
It is a 64-bit Mac OS X application It runs on Mac OS X 10.5.5 or later It requires an Intel-based Mac It uses Motif Linux GUI emulation No current plans for a Mac-style GUI There is also a video on YouTube

Yes, if you've ever run GIMP, well NX looks like the GIMP interface. It's not pretty, but you're getting the performance of the Mac hardware without any emulation in sight, I guess it's a sacrifice that has to be made? I've just downloaded GIMP, looking for an alternative to Photoshop (which I'm probably gonna have to buy at some point

There is always Pixelmator which does some of what Photoshop will do but for $60 instead of over $600.

Yes Pixelmator is a viable alternative, but GIMP is FREE!! (I like that word!! ("FREE", not 'GIMP'!! LOL!) :D:D) I've got Acorn, which is ok, but not a patch on Pixelmator

Also
Paint.NET which is very cool, but is Windows only.

then NX is probably nothing for you :D
you may want to check, if cheap (you like this word ;) ) PS Elements fulfills your needs.
still to expensive?
=> then have a look at the PS Express online version.
