I have an stp file that I've imported into ViaCad Pro6. There is a peanut shape on the back of the object that should be a hole. However, I can't find any way to select the back surface and the peanut shape separately to do a subtractive combine or anything else. I've tried ungrouping. I've tried changing the object type. I've attached a jpg with the back surface duplicated and moved to the right (for illustration purposes).

Does anyone have any Ideas how to proceed?
Thanks.

Is it possible to upload the file for us to look at and play with? You might even send just the duplicated bit that you show in your pic, if that's easier.

Hi

Did you try the curve/ surface intersect tool to see if it pulls arcs out?

I would select the peanut curve and extrude to make a solid and then subtract? If the peanut surface can be selected, you can extrude the surface.

Does the peanut shaped set of curves appear in the Features tab of the Concept Explorer? What happens if you export it to DXF, and then import it into a new VC file? Is it selectable. Have you exported it to other formats?

Also, of the source, did you import the STL with different options to see if any healing/self-healing option appears?

Any saving as other formats and then importing to VC? What happens in the demo version of VC 2D/3D v8? Any diffs there?

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. I used a little bit of everyone's advice and ended up stumbling on the solution.

blowlamp, I was unable to upload my vcp project, even a smaller version of it, even stuffed into a zip file. The two Jpgs I attached to this post uploaded fine, so it must be a size limit thing.

So, exporting and re-importing as different formats (DXF, OBJ, etc) didn't work.
Changing different object types didn't help either. The problem was always that the peanut could not be selected by itself. The whole surface would select.

The solution: After importing, I changed the object type to surfaces. While hunting for the curve/surface intersect tool, I somehow hit the "untrim surface" tool, AND happened to click on our surface in question. What happened is that the whole surface filled in and turned into a rectangle. See jpg "holeinOne-1." I then quickly did an "undo" to correct my spastic clickings and behold "holeinOne-2.jpg" the hole was un-filled! Solved? Good enough.
