There is a special option?
Reading the file also takes a long time!!!

Hi, Ed

Did you try to turn off auto heal and use the follow 3d option in the iges import?

What resolution is the object set at?

Hi Ed,

It is just a display problem due to poly count. You can force a change in the display.

A quick play gives the result shown in pic:-

I will post the steps if that is the result you are looking for?

Ed,

Here are the steps.

NOTE: this does not change the object type, only its display (poly count).

Pic 01. Original import. Right click the object and select "Change type" then select "Meshes"
Pic02 . Follow steps to change output, but ensure you press "Cancel" when changed.
Pic03, Result.

:D:D

Its just the way VC/Shark creates the display meshes by default :D To keep poly count low for display update. As someone once mentioned, the display is a throw back to 386 era :D

Hi,

Hope the info helps.

I have been playing more, and there does appear to be a limitation with Acis/VC on meshing, as I can easily bring up errors/crashing when changing some settings

So please be cautious

ZSurf's IGES representation is very dense, with lots of control points. I've used PolyCAD with ZSurf IGES files to trim them and reduce the definition by deleting every second U and V row. Initially laborious, but it reduces file size and loading time dramatically. It's been pointed out to me before that PolyCAD is windows only.

*edit* just remembered that you can reduce the control point resolution of the IGES output by reducing the resolution of the picture you're processing in ZSurf. ie use a smaller picture and you won't need to change it to a mesh to change the parameters.

I don't think that's right. ZSurf's IGES output is a spline surface, not a mesh. Whatever zoom level you use, it shouldn't display edges.

To see an object in VC/Shark it needs to be rendered, and the rendering is done by facets/polgons being placed over the surface, otherwise you would not see a rendered surface :)

After importing the surf, change the display to wireframe, you will not see the actual surface, only its outline.

Thanks, Steve, you're right. I was struggling to reproduce your steps and didn't cancel. I'll pay more attention.

Hi ED,

I can understand an auto regeneration of surface poly after changing such an option as isolines, so (IMHO) would expect it to revert to a default setting.

Tim as mentioned various possible changes to the display, so we will need to wait to see the outcome. In the meantime, manually changing this does not have issues.

Regards,

- Steve
