How to Copy Just Some Layers to Another Project (#3617)

I am collaborating on a project with a person using AutoCAD (in 2D). I import the AutoCAD file into ViaCAD with no problem. I then create three NEW layers of my own original work. When my associate sends me an updated version of his work I convert that to ViaCAD also. Here is where I am having difficulty. I want to copy ONLY the three layers that I have created using my "master" (that has ALL the layers) file and transfer them to my associates new document (that has only SOME layers) thereby creating a new "master" file (with ALL the layers). In other words, my associate is working on layers 1-7, I am working on layers 8-10. (I have ALL 10 layers in my file, but I only work on layers 8-10). When he sends me his new version of layers 1-7, I want to merge that file with my latest version of just layers 8-10. Creating a new document with all layers 1-10. This procedure will repeat, he will again send me layers 1-7, and I will want to merge ONLY layers 8-10 of my 10 layer drawing to the new file. My associate will never have more than layers 1-7. I will be the only one with all 10 layers. But as he periodically updates layers 1-7 I want to merge that new document with layers 8-10 from my 10 layer drawing. In the old paper days, I would just put my tracing on top of his new ink drawing, make a copy and be done.

Hi You can hide all the layers you imported. Click the hide layer toggle in concept explorer for each layer. Turn on concept explorer with window --> concept explorer Then edit select all (visible layers ones you want to export) Then file export as dwg or dxf and check the box export selected only Then only the selected visible layers will be exported. What version of ViaCAD are you using ? Regards Jason

Thanks for helping,
I have V 6.0.0 on Mac OS 10.6
Also, other then the initial import of the dwg file, I am strictly working with ViaCAD files. I want to copy several layers from one ViaCAD file to another ViaCAD file.

I did try your method. I discovered that the hidden layers were also exported. The only way I have been able to export just some layers is to DELETE the unwanted layers from the file leaving only the layers I want to export in existence.
