Hello everyone! I'm new to viacad and have a question. I have been practicing and getting familiar with the software at my shop on a pc. I would like to practice more at home but at home I have a mac! My question might be a stupid one but I want to ask it before I take the time to download it.. So, my question is if I save a drawing to a dxf file on my mac, will I be able to open it on my sheetcam on my pc with no problems. I would think a dxf file would be the same on either but I'm just not sure! Any advise would be good. Thanks

Hello
There will be no issues with transferring files back and forth between Mac and PC. Save as the native ViaCAD format until ready to export as dxf when needed.

Another question, viacad was on the computer I got with my CNC plasma table as a trial version. If I'm only using it to draw 2d for plasma cutting, will the 2d version of the software that is only $29 be good enough?

And if I purchase it will I be able to use it on my Mac and pc or do I have to purchase a copy for each computer?

The 2d should be fine for that

The ViaCAD is a single license per pc

actually I was told by Encore support, that I'm allowed to install / activate it on up to three computers (Macs in my case) obviously NOT to be used simultaniously, but I can have it e.g. on a laptop and a desktop machine... now if the same license / serial works for Mac and PC I can't say...

cheers Jo

Hi Jo

>>actually I was told by Encore support, that I'm allowed to install

This afternoon Encore clarified with Tech Support the ViaCAD EULA.

With ViaCAD you can install on one machine. Shark allows multiple installs. Mac App Store uses the Apple EULA.

Jo

The ViaCAD licensing has been the same since the beginning of the program I believe it was 2005 or 2006. The difference in Punchcad products is the more expensive Shark programs allow for the multiple installs. Support was incorrectly grouping them all together. Shark programs have different licensing than ViaCAD programs and this has been consistant since the beginning. Sorry about the support confusion.

Well, I was lucky and used Black Friday to get me another english license... . I need it on a computer in the office and on my laptop and after all it's not that pricy . Though if I had been informed correctly from the start, I might have gone for the Shark LT version.
