Hi:
I've been using ViaCad Pro for the Mac for some months now, and have up until now been able to successfully export parts to stl format for 3D printing
However, I recently finished a 3D part that I'm trying to export as an STL file. When I export, I'm either getting the error message "No mesh objects selected!"or I get a file that I can't import into Simplify 3D--it's either empty or unreadable.
I think I've tried everything to fix this and can't get it to work.
I'm running the latest version of ViaCad (V9, Build 1109) on a Mac using OS 10.7.5.
If there's someone from Punch who can look at the file, I'd be glad to send it.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Eric

Tim:
I attached the file (sorry, did not see this option when I originally posted the message). The problem occurs using export and selecting STL file format. I'd appreciate any advice you could give me on this.
Thanks,
Eric

Most of your pieces are not true solids, so they won't translate to STL. Try using the solid tools, such as extrude, to make your pieces instead of moving faces.

Tim/Bill: I sent the file to Encore and they solved the problem. I had selected/grouped the original polygons used to make the shapes and tried to export them in the .STL. Hiding all of the polygons and ungrouping/selecting all solids, then exporting to the .STL with the "selected items" box checked solved the problem. Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric Thanks for posting the file, that helped track it down. STL export wants mesh, surfaces or solids. Your part has the solids inside a group. If you can ungroup your solids, you should be able to export as STL. I am updating the code so that it also takes groups. We should not need to ungroup to export STL. This correction with be in the 1147 codestream. Tim
