Hello

I have designed a mold for a rudder. I have constructed the right part and mirrored it to have the left one. Than i did an add solid to both parts and exported it as stl binary file. My G-code generator (Cut-3D) than generated the nc file (G-code). Now i found out that the right side has a smaller g-code and is much faster to mill then the left part which is the mirrored object of the right one. And here again as i already mentioned in my other topic it produced a lot of tiny steps. See:

You can see it in the txt file at position 43861 to 43875 (right side) and 43876 to 44193 (left side).

So till now my mill is running for more than 11 hours for a part it should run 3 to 4 hours. And it is still running

Can someone please help and tell me what i'm doing wrong.

First of all, change your CAM software. It is giving you a lot of G1 linear interpolation due to the many many surfaces. Try to reduce the surfaces with the remove face command.

The many many lines you had in your 2D profile is creating the many 3D surfaces. Try to minimize those as well. The other thing is to try to not select the flat horizontal surfaces as those don't need to be cut unless you are cutting below zero. That's a waste of time. The other thing is just import the cavity to the cam software without the flat parting line surface to fool the software but then again I don't know the end result that your cam software will spit out with just the cavity.

I have done this,thanks for the hint did not know this trick. Unfortunately that was not the solution the file got even bigger.

Then i made a mirror of all right objects without the nurbs and 3d objects and constructed the left side nurbs and 3d part. But this did not help, still the same. So next i will try is to do a complete new construction of both sides in a new file without mirroring, copying or something similar. And than see what happens.

There must be a difference between the left and the right object. Otherwise both would have similar g-codes.

I still think it is your cam software. When I change the surfaces -see pic, my cam software takes less time to calculate. Of course that doesn't change the number of code lines between the two approaches by much that I see. I would think that's an average time for this big parts. Maybe you can post your feeds and speeds.

Just passing through and noticed this post. It is most probably an issue with line segments as mentioned. I had the same issue with a job that generated gcode from from a copied object and a .dxf file. The copied object looked fine but the copies ran very slow (when running a test in Mach3). Looking at the actual gcode showed it to be bloated beyond reason. The software I was using (CAMBAM) covered this issue in the online forum. Using the EDIT function JOIN fixed the problem. I'm pretty sure that any software dealing with .dxf files has to have a similar function. Must be a function of curves being generated from straight lines.




after reading the post again I have to agree with the last statement that it may actually be feeds and speed.
