In ViaCAD 9 Pro when using the model to sheet function for 3D assemblies (not individual parts) the polyline faster option causes ViaCAD Pro 9 to freeze up forever. The other options such flat, phong, gouraud work Ok but they don't give a nice line drawing.

I have to use task manager in Window 7 to kill ViaCAD.

Is there a patch to be released for soon ?

Hi kevjon

What operating system are you using? After you create model to sheet with a shaded option can you go and switch the views one by one to polyline?

Is this one particular assembly or happens on others?

Regards
Jason

Hi Kevjon
I'm in the process of getting an update together for ViaCAD. If you could email the file, I'll take a look right away. I have several hidden line bugs I've sent to spatial and hopefully I can piggy back this one to the bug report.

Hi Tim, I just sent you the file to test at your evo-soft dot net address.

@jdi000
What operating system are you using?

Windows 7 with ViaCAD 9 Pro (build 1109)

No, that causes it to hang forever.

Is this one particular assembly or happens on others?

It works Ok on simple models, like a couple of cubes and cylinders.
It doesn't work on any structural steel assemblies I do (even simple ones).

If the forums were working properly and I wasn't logged on as a guest, I would post an image or two so you could see how simple the structural steel assembly is.

Hi,

I am wondering if this has been resolved, or if there is a work around. It was working before, it would seem to hang for a few minutes, but would finally complete. Now that I have added the holes and screws it never seems to come back... I let it run for at least an hour last night before killing it. The other options come back in less than a minute, just polylines seems to hang.

Thanks,
Don B.

Hi Don

Would it be possible to send me the file with just the objects displayed for model to sheet?

Regards

Hi Tim,

Yes I can send you the file, the email option in the forum doesn't seem to allow attachments, just let me know how to get it to you.

Thanks,
Don B.

So I am just about done with the modeling of design I was working on and I want to start producing plans for it, but I am still having issues with Model to sheet... in some cases it hangs, in other it take a long time and then produces empty views. I loaded a trial of v9 pro on my work computer (HP EliteBook 8770w Mobile Workstation) and the things it can render are faster, but still has the same issues as my 5 year old desktop.

I upgraded to v9 Pro from v8 (non-pro), so I reloaded that version and found that everything renders fine, and is a bit quicker as well. The model I sent you (Tim) renders in about 7 seconds. I may download v9 (non-pro) trial and see how it behaves.

So I guess for now I will model in v9 pro and render (model to sheet) in v8 (non-pro). I really like the product, the only issues I have hit so far is this and some issues with grouped objects (duplicate copies of objects when importing or pasting from another model and strange issues with moving items when there are groups in the selection...) just learning to avoid groups... which is annoying. Could be that I don't know what I am doing, guess I post that in a different section.

Thanks,
Don B.

I am happy to report that this issue seems to be fixed with V9 PRO SP1.

Thanks,
Don B.
