I'm trying to extrude a simple .500" slot across one side of a cylinder, and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.I keep getting the fix gaps before proceeding message, but I need help doing this.
As general background, I am a beginner with ViaCad Pro, which I find to be amazing with regard to the logical interface, with an abundance of power and flexibility behind it. Any input appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan L

Hi Dan
Are you trying to cut the slot out across the cylinder? The object (slot) has to be a fully connected with no gaps in the profile. You can right click one line if the profile and pick select chain and it will give you an idea if the slot is a fully connected profile. The tool you have selected is to add material. Try the cutout tool if you want to remove material.

Hi Dan I was hit and miss when i was trying put a key way in a solid. Now I make a solid the size of the material i want taken out, i put it where i want to remove the material and use the remove solid tool, it works fine for me it may add a little time to the process but when i think of all time i spent trying to do it the other way i think its faster.

Jim, I guess that's what I did also. At least whatever I did seemed to work. I had the shape, the blue square shape on the side of the cylinder, offset from the cylinder itself, outside of its body. I then used the Cutout Solid tool, had to adjust a couple of things, but it turned out ok. Thanks to both of you for taking time to respond. Dan
