Spacemouse by 3Dconnexion - camera mode only in SharkFXV9? I prefer object mode.

I've just bought a wireless Spacemouse by 3Dconnexion and I regret I did not do it years ago. It's very helpful. However, it it seems to be working in camera mode only in SharkFXV9 - that is, it allows the user to look at 3D objects from different angles etc. by moving the camera. Spacemouse's object mode (where you rotate, pan, zoom, etc. the object you are looking at itself rather than moving the camera) seems unavailable in SharkFXV9. Is there a way to switch to object mode in SharkFXV9? If so, how? Thanks. Mark

Mark,
I don't have the wireless model, but the Disable box under Preferences-User Interface, might be checked.

Larry, Thank you. I've seen that check box and tried it but it is there for a different purpose. I need to find out how to put the Spacemouse in the object mode and take it out of the camera mode.

Hi Mark, The wired model I use works fine in SharkFX9, I don't really understand the function of Camera Mode and Object Mode, please explain. I do know that it is important to plug the USB cable, or in a wireless model the USB receiver, directly to the computer and not a hub or adapter. I know that in Model-To-Sheet, it is recommended to Disable the device, but I thought it might help to try anything, and see what happens. Larry

Hi Mark, I didn't have much luck editing my previous post. I tried the Camera Mode, see what you mean. I selected the Camera wireframe thing, and deleted it, and the 3D mouse went back to object. Larry

Larry, In object mode, when you pull up on the controller, the object is supposed to move (pan) up on the screen. When you push down, the object should move down. In Shark FX v9 I get zoom in / zoom out when I pull up / push down on the controller. Is that what you are getting in your object mode? If so, could you please explain in more detail the way you were able to get object mode? I could not follow your explanation from your last post. Thanks.

Hi Mark,
If you go to 3DMouse Home-Properties, the program that comes with the controller, you can change the Zoom or Pan to work either way, go to Advanced, and you can also reverse the direction.
To get rid of the camera, just delete the camera direction indicator, wireframe looking object, and object mode is restored.
I did notice something else, if the Disabled box is checked, and you open a file that shows the Top View, the controller will not Rotate the object unless you briefly touch the Navigator to Rotate, then the controller will work.

Hi Larry, That is very clear. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me with this. I am on a MacPro, and with the new wireless Spacemouse, or maybe it's because it's a Mac, my Properties options are much more limited compared to what you described and showed in your pictures. The things you show are simply not there. Now I see how it could be done but for the above reasons, I cannot do it. I noticed there's an option to export and import a configuration under Properties / Configure. I wonder if you'd mind exporting your configuration and attaching your file. I'd then import your configuration and hopefully it will work on my computer.

Hi Mark, The Menu shows that you can save a configuration, but I can't find where it is saved. Anyway, I just use the Default Any-Application configuration. Autodesk Inventor and Sketchup have a configuration provided by 3DConnexion, but none for Shark. I'll continue to look, and if I locate the file, I will post it. Larry

Hi Larry,
When you choose Export Configuration under Device / Configure, it'll prompt you for a save location.
When I test exported a config to my desktop, the file that was saved was "3Dconnexion.3dc".

Hi Mark, I was using an older software package, I downloaded and installed the newest version 10 from 3DConnexion. It is different than your screenshots, and completely different from the previous version that I was using. There is no save or export option, but everything still works. Larry

Thanks for your help, Larry. I'll call 3Dconnexion's tech support, and if they give me a solution, I'll post it.

I spoke with 3Dconnexion's tech support today. Shark FX is not on their list of supported software. That could explain the strange behavior I am experiencing with my new Spacemouse Pro Wireless.

>>3Dconnexion's tech support today. They certified ViaCAD 2D3D some years back which is derived from the same code as Shark. We did have to pull it from the Mac App Store builds as their drivers do not pass Apple requirements. If you have a Mac App Store build and need 3Dconnexion support, contact Encore tech support and they can swap out your build. Tim
