I am using ViaCAD beta 9.0.4 build 1150 (I have experienced this issue with the previous releases as well) and I seem to have a a low level of success converting STL files to solids. At least the binary tools do not work with them after the conversion. I select the object, right click, select change object type, select solid and click OK. The wait cursor spins for a while and stops with no errors but does not seem to change the object. I attached is a sample file of what I am talking about.

Thanks for any help!

Randy

Hi Randy

The limits of the Change Object Type tool inspired me to start the PowerPack project. Change Object Type will convert a single body perfect mesh of limited facet counts. Below is a video showing how I would use PowerPack to convert this mesh into a precise solid.

I just added that into the 1151 build which is not out yet for beta. Show Free Edges and Show Non-Manifold Edges really help track down problem areas for converting meshes into precision solids.
