I searched about here, didn't find anything about part names changing. I've made 10 block primitives. Named them all (things like center L, and top R). Then started moving them about. As soon as they move, their names change to things like "Instance_2090" and "Translate_2556", which makes it really difficult to pick and choose parts.

So, am I missing something, is this intentional, or is this something that could be fixed?

also, I noticed that sometimes, if I edit a dimension on a block, it jumps back to where it was created in the first place.

Oh, and another thing. When I'm in the inspector, sometimes I can tab between fields, and other times not. Haven't figured out what's different when it does or doesn't go.

thanks.

A part in ViaCAD & Shark is constructed by a history tree. Each operation has a unique name. However, all operations are contained within a “Part” whose name remains the same for all subsequent operations.

Yes Tim, but what is shown in the ambiguity pop up is the last operation on the part rather than the part name.

....also when selecting a part in v.8 moves and aligns were ignored in the feature tree. In v.9 if a part has been moved or aligned the history has to be opened and the part or modifying operation has to be selected by hand.

Hi Guys, I'm seeing this in ViaCAD 2D3D V9 as well. When you move parts around with things like the align tool, the part name changes from "Part" to things like "Instance" and "Translate". This has the effect of not showing the dimensioning boxes, so its more difficult to redimension things after they are moved. And its usually after you move something that you realize it needs to be resized. I'd been using V9 previously, but they gave me a new build do to the Fingerprint mismatch issue. In the prior versions, a "part" was a "part" regardless of it being moved. Copies, were differnt story, but moved "parts" were the same. I'm hoping there is a setting to choose whether the parts get renamed and thus preserve the dimensioning boxes. This is a productivity killer.

Any more info on this?

Quick update - what I am seeing is that if you select an object, that is other than a part (like an "Instance" or a "Translate") and double click on the gripper for it, the inspector window will open and allow you to modify the dimensions there. This wasn't necessary in my previous build as the object type name remained as "Part" regardless of a move.

I'd still like to see the part remain named as "Part" and the dimension boxes appear as going into inspector just adds another step.

Please let me know if there is a way to preserve this previous behaviour.

Thanks
