Hi all,
I've downloaded the trial version of ViaCAD Pro 9 because I was very impressed by the spoon demo. I want to use the software as a hobby, producing models for printing on a 3D printer. For serious stuff I want to design small engineering projects, testing and iterating with a 3D printer and finally having them made in metal, sometimes via CNC machining. Is ViaCAD Pro 9 up to the job?
TIA,
Gerald.

Hi Gerald
Welcome to the forum. From your description, I believe Pro is a good choice. If your doing 3D printing, you might want to look at the PowerPack add-on with extra 3D print tools. There is a fully functional beta at:

Tim,
thanks very much. I'm sorry not to have replied earlier. I have the option checked to receive notifications but received none!
I've gone through all the tutorials and your product does look to do what I want. It's a steep learning curve for me though. For example, if I draw using the top view in 2d and "extrude solid" as in the machine part example, the circle is hollowed out. If I draw using the right side view the circle is not hollowed out. If I keep the top view version and then try to rotate the resulting solid I have no end of trouble. I'll persist, at least until the end of the trial period. The help, apart from the tutorials, seems pretty sparse!
Thanks again,
Gerald.
