Hi, Newbie question. I just installed ViaCAD Pro V9 and Main Tool Palette is not displayed. How do you turn it on?

Thanks,
Mark

Tried that, no luck. I will un-install and re-install the program. Guessing something is corrupted.

thanks,
Mark

Hi Tim, I un-installed and re-installed and no change. I tried File>Preferences>Factory All and still no main tool palette. Everything else seems to be there. I did some drawings in Version 7 about two years ago and I can open them along with the included examples and everything seems ok but still no main tool palette.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

The saved position of the main tool palette is stored in a file called VCPDialogs.ini. Maybe it is restoring offscreen. Change the name or delete this file which saves your dialog and palette locations.

On Mac it is located:

/Users/<accountname>/Library/Application Support/VCPDialogs.ini

On Windows:

/Users/<accountname>/AppData/Local/Punch!/ViaCAD Pro/VCPDialogs.ini

Hi Tim,
Tried that, but still no luck. Attaching VCPDialogs.ini.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for all your help!

Mark,

I'm using VIACAD 2D/3D V9 (not PRO) so my configuration may be different than PRO V9. In any case, I have a file called "VC3Prefs.ini" in addition to a "VC3Dialogs.ini" file. In my case, the Toolbar position appears to be contained in the "VC3Prefs.ini" file. Do you have a "VCPPrefs.ini" file that could contain the Toolbar location? Or did you already find the information per Tim's e-mail above?

In addition to "Tools", there's also "Hide All Tools" in my "Window" menu, but I assume you are already aware of that.

Sorry if this does not apply to PRO version...

Hello Other Tim,
Thanks for the inputs. I do have a VCPPrefs.ini which I have attached. Not really sure how to read the file.

I have tried to click on everything I can find but no luck.

Not sure what to try next. I tried re-booting, re-installing and searching the web for clues but no luck.

Maybe I should request the non Pro version. I had no particular reason for getting the Pro version anyway.

If you can think of anything else please let me know.

Thanks!
Mark

Mark,

I compared my "VC3Prefs.ini" file to your "VCPPrefs.ini" file. Here are the relevant sections that I thought might help solve the problem:

Mine (WaveMechanic)VC9 2D/3D:
[PalletPositions]FrameWin=Maximized DrawWin=Maximized ToolBar
Popup=1,127 ToolBar PopupDisplayed=TRUE ToolBar PopupFlip=Vertical ToolBar PopupTransparent=FALSE
PenColor=200,100 FillColor=200,100

Mark's VC9 PRO:
[PalletPositions]FrameWin=Maximized DrawWin=Maximized ToolBar
Popup=1,138 ToolBar PopupDisplayed=TRUE ToolBar PopupFlip=Vertical ToolBar PopupTransparent=FALSE
PenColor=200,100 FillColor=200,100

I see no significant difference except for a minor difference in the y position of the toolbar on the screen.
By this, it should be there. So I guess that's not it. It looks like even if you had my VC9 2D/3D, the problem would likely still exist based on the file comparison above.

The Toolbar can be collapsed. Hate to ask, but are you SURE it's not collapsed and hiding somewhere on the screen. It's pretty small when it is collapsed.

If I think of anything else, or can make mine disappear, I'll post again. Otherwise, it will take someone with more expertise than me to solve.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Mark,

I was able to make my toolbar completely disappear by right clicking on the top of the bar and selecting "Collapse To Left" (with the toolbar on the far left of the screen). It completely disappeared and I could not get it back (moment of terror and panic), so I closed VIACAD. When I restarted VIACAD, it came back. For now, here's all I can think of:

1) Have you tried opening your VIACAD by just clicking the shortcut? (i.e. don't click on a VIACAD file to open VIACAD, just do a clean start without opening any files.) Then look for a tiny collapsed Toolbar. (I bet you already did this, since this is how most people would start VIACAD anyway.)

2) What screen resolution are you running?

3) Do you have any toolbars showing at all?

4) Did you make sure that Window -> Hide All Tools is NOT checked, and that Window -> Tools is checked?

The above might seem obvious, but it also seems like it has to be there...somewhere.

Mystery Solved! When WaveMechanic mentioned "Collapse To Left" it dawned on me that I have my windows 7 taskbar on the left side. (Most people have it on the bottom). So...I thought I would try putting it on the bottom and see if it made a difference. Well, the Main Tool Palette instantly appeared as it was hiding behind my Win7 taskbar.

Yea!!!!!

Whoo Hoo!

Thank you both for all your help. I will try not to be so much of a pest in the future. :-)
