Hi all,

I have a very urgent situation. I am using ViaCAD Pro 9 with a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite. I design fixtures for a major automotive manufacturer. I have just today finished a set of drawings for this company. I am required to provide a 3D model and the dimensioned drawings in DWG format. I discovered that the DWG drawings will not open. I can't even open them using ViaCAD Pro 9. I can provide a sample but I don't see a place to attach a file in this message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Welshter

Hello Welshter

Attached is what your file looks like in AutoCAD. I had to delete a large polygon covering up the drawing though. If you can send me the viacad file, I'll check out what is causing that.

Tim,

Here is a small assembly file. The main file is over 25mb.

DXF/DWG is an exchange format and may require to use "File > Import/Export" instead of "File > Open".

You can use the free Teigha Viewer for checking your DXF/DWG files.

Many thanks for providing the example file. Here is what I found out.

1. There is a large blue polygon in the sheet layer that is turned off using Show/Hide. I changed the DWG export to not export an object if it is hidden.

2. If a solid was not visible, it was not embedding the SAT data into the DWG file. This is now corrected in 1183.

I'll also save a dwg version of your file into my dropbox.

>>>I am required to provide a 3D model
If they have a hard time with the 3D data inside the DWG file, you might want to provide a separate SAT or STEP of your 3D data. The 3D data embeded into the DWG file is revisioned down to SAT 7 whereas ViaCAD is using SAT 25.

Tim,

Thank you for your help. The install of this fixture took place over the weekend. I will more than likely meet with my customer tomorrow and review all the mechanical changes made during the installation. I will revise the drawings this week and next. Then email them to my customer.

I noticed the latest build is 1166, so I am downloading it now. Build 1183 will be released soon?

My customer can open the STEP files as long as I save them with PC as the end of line. We couldn't see the dwg files because of the blue object. Neither one of us had an option to remove the object. The blue object isn't a part of the assembly drawing. I don't know why it appears in the dwg file.

Thank you again. I have used ViaCAD for several years and it has always done very well for me in my work.

Have a Merry Christmas, Welshter

OK, updated to build 1166. Still not able to open dwg files after I save them from ViaCAD Pro V9. Here are a couple of files to test. The dimension tools aren't functioning properly under this version.

Thanks for your help. Welsher.
