my objective is to wrap the exterior of the two roll hoops shown in the attached image without creating multiple ellipses and circles by hand. to wrap, I need the two tangent curves which both change with height.. how do I create sections of the existing solid models so that the tangent points can be found and marked? my approach is creating two fitted curves through the resulting sets of points (front & back) and then adding "thickness" to the surface to the required sheet metal thickness.............. thanks

OK, more specificity. the help file that comes with Shark FX9 refers to several "section view" tools with at a minimum some clues on how to use each. what I can't find is where are the "section view" tool icons hidden! the "path" is not provided for any of the tools in the provided documentation....... what otherwise seems like an outstanding and affordable piece of code is crippled by what I find inadequate documentation on how to use and exploit the tool! public user forums area great deal better than nothing but in my view a very poor substitute for user instructions consistent with the quality of the basic software tool.

Hi Art

The Section View tool is part the Draw View tools, fourth icon from left.

The video below shows an example use of the Section View command around time 1:30.

Tim-

thanks, located the tool with the help of the video. I'm unable to draw lines tangent to the two tubes in the resulting 2-D section views. the objective is a series of tangent points in 3-D space. is there a 3-D sectioning functionality (preferably in place)? with the tangent points changing on both tubes from bottom to top and around the curve, I see no other way to develop the two spline curves to "skin" between.................... clearly circles and ellipses can be drawn incrementally but I was hoping there was a more clever way to do it with Shark.

Happy New Year !!

You can create an Infinite Plane from the Surface Tool palette along with the Cut Section tool to create a section from any surface or solid.

The "Section Properties" video on the bottom of this page link shows how to create a section.

Tim-

thanks, that got it!! cutting with the "cut tool" leaves a profile a tangent can be drawn to; the boundary curve from subtracting two solids for some reason wasn't yielding an object I could draw a tangent line to..... this approach is far better because there's no solid to look "through".
