Hi.

This is the second part I am trying to build in ViaCAD. Basically I am trying to build an open and quite shallow box consisting of a base and 4 sides - no top. The side have lugs protruding to enable the box to be screwed down. Because I have fairly basic knowledge of ViaCAD, I have elected to draw/extrude all the pieces because of the complexity around the lugs. Having extruded the pieces, I'll then assemble the box and use the 'Add Solid' tool to create one part to send to the 3D printer.

The 2D drafting was fairly straight forward, and I made heavy use of 'snap to end point' to ensure all the polygons were closed.

I was able to extrude the two sides with no issues (filled pieces to the left and right of the attached screen grab). All the remaining polygons get the error "Curves Not Planar", and refuse to extrude.

I think I have done all the usual things here. I cannot see any highlighted parts or lines when I attempt to extrude. I have been over all the polygons and I cannot find any breaks or gaps in the polygons. I think (?) I have checked that all the lines are on the same plane (all have a Z value of zero).

What am I missing here? Is there a list of things I could check?

As I am now stuck, I would appreciate any help.

Regards, Rusty.

Can you hide all the objects except the lline you are using for the wall and try to extrude again

What options if the extrude tool are you using?

Hi Jason. Thanks for your response.

I did as suggested - hid all the pieces except the wall I was working on - it is the piece at the bottom of the screen grab in my last post.

I then tried the extrude again. First of all, I clicked on the extrude tool and then on one of the lines in the wall (anywhere) and I received the same message.

I then tried a different approach - clicked on the extrude tool and selected the entire object by dragging the extrude cursor around the wall (top-left to bottom right to select whole objects). This time I have the message 'Gaps detected in profile! Fix the gap and try again'. See attached picture. I have been over the lines on this profile zoomed right in, and I can't see any gaps anywhere. What are those two markers trying to tell me near the screw lugs? Is that where the gaps are supposed to be? I have zoomed right in on those locations - no gaps.

Options were:
- Extrude Solid
- Distance selected
- dx =0.0, dy = 0.0, dz=1.0
- Distance = 1.0
- Draft Angle = 0

Appreciate any insight you may have.

Regards, Rusty.

if you upload the file I could have a look. Usually in these situations there is a point or a double line somewhere. I would also make sure all the parts of the profile are in the same plane using the project to plane tool.

ps, looks like you have some points in the centre of the circles, should probably deselect those...
