Hi, I am running Shark FX 9 Build 1162 on a Mac Pro. Is this the latest non-beta build? Since Shark does not seem to have a "check for updates" button, what is the procedure for updating it to the latest version? Thank you. Mark

There is a current version check function under the help menu but I don't think it works for beta updates.

Hi Craig, Thank you very much - I found it and it worked. Build 1162 is the latest one. I did not want a beta version anyway. I was looking for an update because build 1162 seems slow and buggy. I have a top specced, latest Mac Pro, and Shark FX 9 seems to be having problems with fairly simple models. I wonder if I need to reinstall Shark FX 9... it seems to have slowed down since my original installation, and is no faster, and actually seems slower, than previous versions of Shark were on my old, 2011 Mac Pro. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Mark

Hi Mark, you do not need to reinstall Shark, what you need to do is upgrade to the latest build, there is no such thing as a commercial release version of V9, they are all Beta (I was sold an Alpha version, build 1143). Build 1162 is a pig compared to the build I finished with V9 (1186) and I believe from the comments posted that the builds after 1186 are a lot better. Get the latest build and you will be a lot happier than you are with 1162 and just so you are aware of Sharks resource capabilities, Punch products cannot make use of memory or graphics cards, I have tested this on 3 separate machines. Machine #1 – a laptop with a Nvidia geforce 840m and onboard Intel HD 4400 (8gb ram), I ran Shark on both the Nvidia card and the Intel graphics and no difference was seen. Machine #2 – desktop PC with a Nvidia GTX 760 (8gb ram) Machine #3 – a very old 11.4” laptop with a basic Intel graphics chip, Windows Vista and an old Core 2 duo processor (2gb ram). The last machine runs V8 as well as the other two much newer and more expensive machines do. PunchCAD products have many issues and utilising resources is one of their biggest.

Hi Craig,
Thank you for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it.
I'd like very much to get Build 1186 or whichever one is the latest and the greatest now.
Where and how can I get it? I have 1162 and the Shark's Help/Current Version tells me I'm running the latest version...
If you could explain to me how to download the latest Beta of V9, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Mark

Hi Mark, go over to the Beta thread and there is a sticky at the top for 1195, at the very top of Tim’s post there is a link to the 1195 update, if you click on it you have to fill in a form and they will send the update link to your email address. However, I have seen that 1195 has a few problems so maybe contact Tim or Encore directly and ask for the most stable build which for me was 1186, but I believe 1191/2 were pretty good.

I've finished two huge projects with a build 1193. No serious issues found. If you use only solids and MTS this is the most stable build. Magicart

Thank you very much, Craig. It worked. BTW - I downloaded a Build 1195 dmg file four times and could not install it - the files probably got corrupted during download. Tim uploaded a zipped file and it worked great. Just a workaround to keep in mind in case of download problems. Perhaps the download files should always be zipped as a degree of protection against download problems. And the zipped file was Build 1196. I'm looking forward to trying it out today. Mark

Mark did you see Magicart's post above yours? 1193 seems to be the one?

I did but I had gotten 1196 from Tim by then and he'd spent time uploading a zipped file etc. doing me a favor so I was not about to look a gift horse in the mouth : ) So far 1196's been working fine.

Good to know, I thought you had mistyped when you wrote 1196.
