This is hopefully simple... hopefully.

See "Head Duct Body". I want to add a "floor" to that extrusion on the x-y plane that is ~1.25mm thick.

(I've added the "roof" model, too. All of this goes together to be printed on my 3D printer to create a terribly custom cooling system for the extruder. Yes, the body will have a couple of ducts cut into it to spew air in the general direction of the extruded plastic. I *think* I can handle that particular bit of modeling.)

Note that this is derived from this "Thing" http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7791

(And, yes, this whole thing -- vc3 + STLs -- will be posted on Thingiverse for other Ultimaker users to hopefully take advantage of...)

Assuming this is a solid, you could remove the inner walls/faces at once and you get a chunked block, then you would next shell it out to what ever wall thickness you want. This gives you a shell with the same wall thickness throughout. If you want to reduce the floor thickness then you would offset that by any amount you want.

Of course this just one approach. There are many others. At least my approach gives you freedom to change wall thickness at will for other 3d processes or manufacturing.

Thank you for the response.

I'm not sure I can remove the inner walls/faces; they don't seem to be individually selectable, but it is likely I haven't found the right button to press.

The command is called Remove Face in the solid functions. You could just extrude the outer perimeter to get here and then shell it out.

Bummer. That doesn't work. It gives me a "gap cannot be filled" error.

I suspect the evolution of the curve is such that ViaCAD can no longer solve the underlying math. Nor can I project the curve to 2D.

I have never seen that error. Sounds as if there is a gap and thus you can't extrude. Also, check your personal message.

My first suggestion did work.

As it turned out, I still had the original curve in 2D that I had extruded. Deleting the inset portion allowed me to create a face that could be easily extruded in 3D.

This lead to me completing the fan duct for my Ultimaker:
