I see several other people talking about this also so its not just me. I had the program crash 4 times this morning. If you don't save your work with every edit your risking losing alot time and effort. Surely there is something amiss. Do I not have the latest update for windows 10? I've only had the program for a few months so it should not be that out of date. Please advise.

What build are you on and what system, Windows or Mac?

1184 is the problem, you need to get 1201 from the Beta page, top thread.

Thanks can you recommend a GPU good for CAD? I am not a gamer. Seems most of the new cards are meant more for games. I was looking at 4GB memory cards/ is that overkill?

Sure thing, if you are talking about just for Shark then it is way overkill. I have a laptop with a decent onboard Intel GPU and a standalone Nvidia 840M (2gb memory), then I have the desktop machine with the Nvidia GTX760 (2gb memory). When using Shark there is a slight difference in performance between the Intel chip and the 840M but there is no difference seen between the 840M and the GTX760 which is a far superior card. The thing about computers is we always want more so at this moment you might only think you need it for Shark but in a few months time you could get into Blender or some other program that makes use of a decent GPU and that's where the 4gb memory would come in. Stick with Nvidia, I ran both Blender and Shark on an old GT512mb card and they both ran fine, the problem with the lower end cards is that they will take considerably more time to render. Seeing as Shark does not use the GPU for rendering that would only be a problem if you wanted to use another program for rendering. For CAD and especially Shark, single core CPU performance is just as important as GPU. I notice this big time between my AMD which has excellent single core performance and my i5 which has slightly worse single core performance, the AMD system seems to run just a little sweeter on the CAD front.

Thanks so much for the input. The GTX is one of the GPUs I was looking at. I was wondering about upgrading the CPU as well, but I just built this machine about 6 mos ago and used a AMD FX quad core. The 8 cores are reasonably priced now. But where do you stop? Running 16GB DDR3, now they have DDR5!

Thanks for the thanks.
I did a lot of research when putting my system together and I nearly went for the AMD pile driver that has 8 cores but found out that it has very bad single core performance.
I would not be surprised if your quad core beats the 8 core hands down on single core performance which makes for smoother CAD running, check it out on CPU boss or some site.
With all graphics programs moving to GPU rendering the GTX is an excellent choice, the higher the number the better.
My last machine lasted 7 years and it ran well for those 7 years, I don't like changing machines often as a smooth running system is all I need.
Yeah where do you stop, that new GTX1080 would be cool but at over £500 it is worth more than my GTX760 and all the rest put together!

The 1201 build is expired. I know it doesn't help you, but just for the record: On the Mac, I can't actually recall any crashes in the recent months.

So my build will not work for over 10 mins now without crashing and the new "fix" is not available? I downloaded it from the beta forum and got to the registration that for ssn reg key and autor. code. It let me open the 15 day trial. Now what?

Contact support and request a good build. You haven’t ticked your Use Vertex Arrays in the view options dialog by any chance?

the nVidia GeForce GTX 960 from e.g. Asus or MSI (double fan models) is the best-bang-for-the-buck GPU at the moment, stay away from the AMD Radeons which tend to have an OpenGL support optimized for gaming (= artefacts/crashes w/ 3D modeling applications). For Shark/ViCAD 2 GB VRAM is enough but 4 GB VRAM obviously didn't harm and is not that expensive.
More or less all CAx systems are calculating modeling operations on one (1) kernel only, therefore the single core performance of the CPU is most important for the overall performance. The best recent and affordable CPUs in this context (besides Xeons) are currently the
intel Core i7-4790K/6700K (divide Passmark points by cores for single core performance).

Hi Macnavi,
It's true that Shark is much more stable than it was in the past... except with Models to Sheets linked to complex solids.
Modifying the solids or the MTS often leads to a freeze, or a crash.
I know that Tim is working on that...
