People are focusing on bugs when they are in reality a very small part of the problem, the way the customer is treated is the main problem. Many software companies not only continue to do it but they actually think there is nothing wrong with what they are doing.
I browsed the Rhino forum this morning and one of the members questioned the hierarchies statement. A big shot for McNeel jumped in and told the person something like “well if you don't like it ask for a refund”, the thing was that the person was right in what they said.
Here is the software industries business model,
You buy our software
You give us endless bug reports, of which many are never addressed
You pay some more money to upgrade to the next version which is not ready for commercial use by any stretch of the imagination.
You give us more bug reports
And so on
There seems to be a remarkable lack of accountability in the software industry, to put this in perspective a woman in my town was given a £750 fine and an 18 month suspended jail sentence for lying about using her car for carpooling.
Now how does that compare to selling people Alpha and Beta software under the banner of commercial?
Since I was told “you don't know what you are doing, it's not the software”, I went on a mission to find out exactly what was going on in the CAD/modelling software industry and I have been shocked by what I have found.
