I have a decent AMD video card. but after thew latest in a string of crashes I am curious if it the AMD card?

ATI RADEON™
HD 5830 GPU
ENGINE CLOCK 800 MHz
MEMORY GDDR5
MEMORY CLOCK 1 GHz
MEMORY BANDWIDTH 128 GB/s
MEMORY 1024MB

I am debating switching to an Nvidia Card. Yall's thoughts?

I am updating AMD drivers to Crimson and seeing if that helps.

I updated AMD catalyst to AMD CRIMSON RADEON SETTINGS A whole different video driver system. My system is running much faster and more vivid.

BUT

I have not yet tried to do alot work on VIaCad again, I am about to try. If it crashes again, I suspect it may be the amd card.

It crashed again.

Tim, maybe this error will help:

I looked up the fault module and it belongs to the AMD Raptr Gaming evolved which was installed when Amd Catalyst was installed.

I just uninstalled it and will see what happens.

Well after deleting AMD raptr from my system (and PlayTV which is connected to it) I was not able to cause a crash in VIAcad.

Maybe that fixed it.

the OpenGL stack of AMD graphics cards resp. their drivers do unfortunately have already shown some incompatibility issues (artefacts, crashes) in the past and are therefore not recommendable for 3D modeling with Windows PCs.

A mature nVidia GeForce GTX 960/1060 is currently the best bang for the buck.
