Tim? Is it possible you to add a rotation tool type: door? as with a door? along an axis?
It is very difficult to rotate an object about an axis, an axis would be a line.
It would be a tool resembling the hinge function, such as with a door.

Here is my demonstration to show the function with traditional tools.
Even if it goes like this, it would be easier with a type of tool door, hinge, rotation.

solution founded!!!!
lol
Now that theory is proven, it is necessary that Tim and co offers an ergonomic tool for this :)

Since what you ask can be obtained in just a few steps, wouldn't a complete new tool be seen as feature bloat?

Hello, Why make it complicated, so we could do a lot simpler by programming a new tool rotation? Have you tried to run an object as my demo? see that it is a tedious job. I talk for mode: non-orthogonal views Antoine

<shrug> Its the difference between having a tool that will make your present job easier and making the interface more complicated for people who will rarely want to use this particular tool. Reading through the forum there seems to be a number of people who don't use the 'second order' tools that are already available.

Yes Antoine I agree with you and support your request.
Tim made a great improvement when he added "distance" to the translation tool because it now works in any angular direction (before it was only xyz).
Now for rotation, we need an easy way to set a non-orthogonal axis, and keep the axis information and angular data in the feature tree...
Why do we get translation in the features, and not rotation ?

How about making rotate by three points rotate by four points instead? Instead of the fixed point being the z-origin of the current plane or an implied plane parallel to it, the first two points define the axis of rotation. A very small change to the UI, it would mean having to pick the fixed points twice, if you're looking at ortho plan view, you're sighting down the axis, so you'd click one point twice to denote it.

Sorry, but I don't see why you would want a new tool for something as simple as this:
https://dl.dropboxuserco...com/u/59265041/Hinge.mov You can also get the same result by drawing a line as the axis of rotation and aligning the gripper to the line.

You can do it even faster than BillB is showing. Make sure object to rotate is selected. Click on "Set origin" (instead of "Axis to object") and click on the corner of the object. Your Gripper will immediately end up at the same place, but with less clicks and moves.

Yes, but setting the origin aligns the gripper in the x,y,z planes. OTOH setting 'Axis to Object' will align the gripper to any arbitrary edge, which is what was asked for.
