Evening all,
I've been editing some of the files in ViaCAD folders for resolution and line thickness and all this, and just trialled a different resolution file with quite interesting results.
I'm comparing 2 surfaces. I compared these in NX 9 using the deviation tool and got the results attached. I then ran the same thing in ViaCAD Pro V10 with PowerPack, and used Cloud Compare. You can see on the attached image the difference in results between the two resolution files. The one which measured more points, is closer to the NX 9 results. I've taken the resolution down to 0.02 (from 4.5 original) on the super fine setting, and the visual results are pretty dam good!
But why would I get different results in cloud compare? Granted they are not much different, but I'm inclined to trust the one from NX, so adjusting resolution could be important?

The Coordinate Compare tool in PowerPack Pro compares a point cloud to a NURB part. If you select a mesh/surface/solid the point cloud is taken from the facet display list which is a function of the resolution. To get the best resolution, use Super Fine : Precise Facets.
You can also do Edit : Change Object Type : Mesh to get the Mesh Parameters dialog and further control the resolution. If you hit cancel, the display mesh on the solid is left at the custom resolution.
