Anyone know how to add loop in mesh symmetry?

I have Mesh Symmetry on; and the mirror plane is right in the center facing either side I'm working on.

The push-pull operations are working fine – aka symmetrical.

HOWEVER -- I can't figure out why when I Add Loop to one side, it doesn't reflect on the other side.

Help please..

*using VC 10 Pro. Do NOT have power pack at the moment.

Would you happen to have a small file that has this issue that you can send me?

You should be able to add a loop with mesh symmetry.

Tim

Hi Tim, did you happen to receive my email with the file? Any good news perhaps? :)

Thanks

Received, thank you for sending the example file. Unfortunately Add Loop will not add a loop to the symmetry side of the mesh. I'll add this to the feature list.

Yes, mesh symmetry(I use viaCAD Pro v10) is very moody. And generally, VC's subdiv feature is suitable only for simple base forms. For more serious work it is less predictable.

What else can you suggest as an alternative for a Mac user?

1. Modo is too expensive
2. T-splines is no longer available for Rhino
3. Clayoo plugin is only for PC
4. Silo is ok but I don't even think its being developed anymore
5. Maya is too expensive

Hope VC SubD will continue to be developed to a higher degree.. It could be very promising.

I'm WIN user and I meant hybrid workflow(subDiv + solid) in same programm.
This feature is perfectly implemented in Fusion 360. I did not work with Fusion. But the tutorial videos are very impressive.

In principle, for simple elements, VC's sudiv is quite suitable. But it is very unstable. Here is an example of "Add Loop" function. Absolutely not predictable. Sorry, it's no good.

Silo is one of my favorite programs. Recently, Nevercenter released new cool updates(improved UI, FBX export and more). Maybe soon we'll get the 3. version. I hope. :)

I cannot get Mesh Symmetry to work at all

Very odd as I've used it in the past, albeit not in anger

I turned it round 90 degrees as I wanted the plane of symmetry going XZ (Y=0)

... but if you do that, it doesn't work

Z is always up for me - I'm a transport guy !!

What am I doing wrong ?

I have the symmetry plane working in one open file - and not working in another.
