Ok, noob questions time:

1. I cannot seem to get the Pattern tool to work properly. I tried the Linear Duplicate and got nowhere. The Pattern seems to be asking me the correct questions, I.E. dX dY dZ for the offsets and #X #Y #Z (which I assume means the Number of instances in a particular direction) but I am getting the virtual middle finger when I set dY and #Y to zero (I do not want instances in that direction) Shark tells me it has to be larger than zero. I can only get a pattern of a single Subtract Solid boolean. What is the magic here?

2. Do pattern dimension have to always be positive? In other words, if I want to drive my pattern in the negative direction (relative to my origin) do I have to start in a location that only have positive pattern values?

Thanks....

Hello

Are you trying to duplicate objects on a surface or just duplicate objects in 3d space

A simple description is I have a block that is 1" x 2" x 3" (depth) and I have subtracted a .08" diameter hole from it in the lower left corner .125" from each edge. I want to pattern that cut 10 times in the X and 4 times in the Z direction that hopefully results in the a block with a bunch of holes in it. I can only get the pattern to go in one direction at a time...not a grid. What am I missing?

I did find the "magic". I finally realized the Pattern tool considers X and Y as the pattern directions on a face irrespective of the Global or a Set coordinate system. Mindset change for me. Which still leaves me with a bit of curiosity. What use then is the dZ and #Z values in a linear pattern? I tried some values for "Z" and it doesn't seem to do anything. Unless the system "sees" the Z items but they are really phantom? (I.E. buried within the model). I am learning this software! :o)

Don't know if this will help, but this is my method for bolt holes
in beams etc. If I understand correctly you want the holes 90 degrees
to one side?
You can rotate the block and subtract.
I work alot with 8020 extrusions, and the extrude bolt pattern results
in smaller file sizes than holes, and I can save the pattern for further use.

I did get the Pattern Tool to work properly. But I am interested to know another method from a Shark veteran. I am not following your description (maybe just Shark terminology). Is "Extrude Bolt Pattern" an actual tool in the software? Also, I see you have two lines that have been segmented. What are you using to create the cut in your block, one extrude that uses all the circles? Were the circles patterned in any way or did you create the circles explicitly at each segment/vertex then drive the cut? Thanks.

Extrude bolt pattern is just something I use.
Your holes were .306 inches center to center, the
segment tool will divide your 2.75 line into
9 segments. I just placed a .080 circle at each segment
and copied them and extruded 2.125.You can do all the
holes at one time with subtract tool.
