Graphic Cards are very expensive at time because of the Bitcoin Mining Hype. You need a Graphic card which is fast for 3D Open GL for smooth motion. I suggest a AMD Ryzen CPU with a AMD Radeon RX Vega 64. This is ready for the future.

depends on the platform: Windows or macOS?

Regardless of the used platform get a dedicated graphics card and not a lame integrated one as e.g. the intel HD series.

If Windows avoid the AMD Radeon series with a known flaky OpenGL driver support, go for a nVidia GeForce GTX as e.g. a GTX 1050Ti or GTX 1060 (V-RAM depending on desired resolution). Expensive CAD graphics card series (nVidia Quadro, AMD FirePro) are in general not required.

• Passmark Bechmark : CPU - Single Thread Performance (relevant only for 3D modeling operations)
• Passmark Benchmark : GPU

Now I use nVidia Quadro. Before I used GeForce. It does not have any impact on the VC/Shark.
From my experience the real increase in VC performance are SSD HD + 32/64Gb RAM.

the performance of modeling operations relies mainly on the single-thread performance of the CPU (see link above).

SSD is surely nice for every system, especially as system medium. RAM is involved only if not enough avail., i.e. putting more RAM in doesn't help if not used/required.

Agree. But I proceeded from the fact that @Andrew Gray buys a new computer with a sufficient CPU. If only one program is working, the RAM will certainly not be useful. If several applications run simultaneously(for example Shark+Keyshot maybe +browser, e-mail client, secure software, video, audio bla bla bla...:)), then without sufficient RAM it will not be comfortable.
