US VC9 2d/3d Pro 64 is there a way to find a complex non planar parting line for making a mold.

It appears that this is not a feature in ViaCad and there does not appear to be a brute force method either. I had thought of, (but not tested) a brute force method using CamBam with STL models. I described my idea (but not yet tested) on the CamBam forum where the user EddyCurrent appears to have modified parts of other plugins to create a plugin to automatically create a non-planar silhouette that might serve as a very substantial starting point for what I hoped to achieve. For those interested in a possible solution to a similar problem you can read about it here:
http://www.cambam.co.uk/...m/index.php?topic=7799.0 on the CamBam forums. Please don't be afraid to ask question on the CB forum. The other users are among the most helpful I have found anywhere on any forum.

I guess "Silhouette Curve" might do the trick. I'm not shure though, if it's available in Viacad 9.

Depending on how it works that might interest me in upgrading. Do you know of a demo video of that tool/feature? Do you know what versions it might be available in?

Interesting. My first test does produce a result. I created a 3D pipe from a 3D spline and produced a silhouette in 3D. I'm not yet certain if its a useful result, but its certainly a step in the right direction.

Is this something you want to do in a 2d plane like the image above, or be able to do it 3d? As you could copy the face and move it backwards to be central and then use plane cut, or similar to divide the part using the surface?

Rail sweeping the faces of the part along two orthogonal rails and intersecting the sweep parts will extract the partition, I think. For solid obects, anyway, I don't think meshes will be cooperative with that.
