Mcmaster.com has a huge library of 3d parts in various formats for most of the fasteners they sell. Pick the exact part you want, click on the bar on the left for technical specs, look up at the title bar, hit download, and choose your format. (this is from memory). I could not produce as quickly without them. (I also order from them several times a week). I usually import as iges and can boolian threads in my parts from theirs. Art

Is there any new info on symbol libraries? Many users could really benefit from add-on libraries.

I would appreciate a front end UI to view and order (download) fastener and part CAD files, but I dread storing GBs of CAD files that I will never utilize in my lifetime, let alone dragging along a DVD(s) full of same. I really want a better option that integrates with SharkFX and friends than my general purpose web browser. The UI I am imagining would be searchable and provide simple visual feedback for selected/queried items. a simple line drawing without shading in most instances would be great. Then, of course, it comes to fastener threads. So long as the OD of the threads is represented, I don't need threads represented, but a fastener head should be modeled correctly. These can be step, dwg, I don't care, what ever represents the part as a whole. I don't customize these things but I need to account for clearance and tools when dealing with complicated assemblies. Lastly, assembling these things can be frustrating, there has got to be an easier way to insert these parts into my CAD models and assemblies. That is all I could constructively rant about for now.

http://screencast.com/t/0DSNQZ2vN SharkFX in French has screws library in volume, which helps a lot.
it lacks only the parametric possibilities.
Who can create a parametric library of hardware?:rolleyes:
