Many times modeling different items I would get that non planar error. I watched all of Tim's tutorials that explained this. And I understand it and have used those techniques. But I just figured out something so simple. Just click on the lines. And look at the Z axis data window. Instantly you can find a dimension that is out of plane. Set it to zero. And then everything works. Extruding, trimming, pulling. I know many high end users know this. But simple things like this can be tricky to figure out. Also the tip from MPSchmied about working without the grid has improved my workflow so much. Snaps are so much better without the grid. I know the grid has its special uses. But working without it is awesome.

I, too, recently stumbled into that trick. It was abheadslapper, as I would become angry at "non-planar" when to my mind it was so obvious to me what *I* wanted to do but the app wasn't reading my mind. Also, I, too, hardly use the grid. For certain spacing, I turn it on, use it, and then it off. Moreover, I hardly use reference planes, as I orefer to use the geometry I set up as references. But, sometimes, as I'm slowly realizing, reference PLANES vs reference surfaces, definitely make life easier when I'm mimicking propeller desogn of tutorials in other apps.

That stoked me out reading your reply, ZeroLengthCurve. Really curious about your reference plane versus reference surface, Whenever I use my version of Alibre atom. It always starts with a reference plane. Sketch on plane. So far most of my modeling in ViaCAD I have only been using reference planes to split items. or create some interesting lofts. I also really enjoy creating propellers. So far the best ones I have made were in Blender. I can create the propellers quite easily. But getting the twist on the blade is tricky.

Hi ZLC
I had a look at those links and found them very interesting.
I have been visiting reddit a bit lately and it is starting to develop into a website for interesting subjects.
It reminded me of a discussion on here earlier regarding dimples on vanes and some such a while back.
