I got the first spam for the official release of V14. I see that some users already have it based on posts here on the forums.

Is there:

  • A list of bug fixes.
  • A list of new features.
  • A list of features that no longer work.
  • Return of features that were deleted instead of fixed in the V12 "update"?

I am not going to buy it just to have the latest model. I want to know what I will be gaining (or losing) if I do.

I agree with that i have been testing it for some time now and have highlighted a few bug which have been sorted out. All software has bugs some easy to fix and others hard to reproduce so it take longer to fix. for the upgrade price i think its good. training documentation takes time to produce and make sure its correct so far i am very happy with things i have sharkCAD pro.

Todd confirmed to me that Shark Pro can be installed on three PCs, a return to flex license conditions and a response to a complaint that I've made for a few years. That's decisive to me, so a big tick to IMSI and everyone who made that happen.

@ Bob La Londe, I have about 3 mail shots so far, and I upgraded on the first one I received.

I think the upgrade is worth it, and I'm using the latest macOS and an M1 processor, so I'm in Rosetta 2 mode which isn't ideal. Once I got past the Extended/Main Display quirks these last few weeks it's been very usable. They are still a few quibbles, but overall I find the workflow easier than Fusion360 & Rhino, and it's my most productive 3D drawing software. I mainly generate laser cutting files, and 3D print models, so my use case is limited compared to others here.

I think some of you aren't following. I thought the implications were obvious that I have older versions and I use them. I do not need to be convinced whether or to have software I am already using.

Le me be clear.
1. I have been using ViaCad since version 5.
2. I'm familiar with it.
3. I have V9pro64 and V12pro64 installed concurrently because the bug fix for one feature in the only ever update I am aware of was to delete the feature instead of fix it.
4. I want to know what I actually get for my money if I upgrade to V14.

HENCE IS THERE?

  • A list of bug fixes.
  • A list of new features.
  • A list of features that no longer work.
  • Return of features that were deleted instead of fixed in the V12 "update"?

@murrayagain. Thanks but I cannot confirm "that SharkCAD v14 Pro can be installed on three PCs". The license agreement states "...use the object code of the software on a single machine and make a single copy of the software for backup" (see screendump)
I think this is: one user - one install :-(
I hope they will update and change the license agreement to the 3 installs.

But except for the license "problem" I find the first impression of SharkCAD v14 pro is very good. It seems very stable (I did some tests on two relative large projects from Sharkcad v12 pro) and the rendering looks good.
I also works very well (v12 also did) with 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro Wireless.
I think the update is worth the money...

I keep running into a problem in v12 when I have a solid displayed in a viewport and trim that solid with a line or curve, the link between the solid and viewport get messed up if I delete the cutting line.

Would this be resolved in v14?

@creativecad if you uploaded the file or picture, maybe others could test?
However if deleting the line throws up a dependency error, I doubt it..
If it’s a view thing, you could hide the line

So I have to use ViacCad Pro 12 at my workplace. Pretty sure that ViaCad 12 has this same issue, but I did it here on ViaCad Pro 10.

Steps to repeat
1. Draw a Block primitive as shown.
2. Use the Model to Sheet to put the Block Primitive into the viewport.
3. Go back to the block primitive in the model and draw a simple line across it.
4. Use the Trim Solid tool to trim it to the simple line.
5. Delete the line.
6. Now try to move the Block primitive around a little and regenerate your draw view.

I've already done this in the attached file. When you try to update the draw view now, it does not display correctly in the viewport. It is still showing the original untrimmed part(which no longer exists) in the view. This is really annoying when you have already dimensioned everything and go back to make revisions to your part.

Thankfully, as far as I know it does not create a problem until after you create the draw view. As long as you haven't created the draw view, you can use the trim solid tool with no consequence.

Trim solid error.vcp (46kb) downloaded 1 time(s).
Trim Solid Error.bmp (2,439kb) downloaded 2 time(s).

I mentioned in another post, this is an issue, what OS are you running v14 on? When posting, readers need to what OS the comments are related to. Or park that info in your sig.

A few observations:
It seems that the Decals feature is removed from SharkCAD v14 pro or at least it is moved from the Render Library.
The user manuals (pdf and online manual) are not updated correctly for the new rendering and still contains v12 user interface info and screendumps.
There is few materials in the Render Library and I am not able to change the color of the Matte/Glossy materials (Difficult to guess without an updated manual)

Murray,

I was able to convince IMSI to add this to TurboCAD Professional and TurboCAD Platinum product as well.

I'm not sure why it's not getting promoted...

I've installed Shark Pro V14 on two machines, third installation won't activate, citing "activation limit has been reached", in line with the unchanged license, which ambiguously says one install, one backup. This is a roller coaster.

FWIW, Win 10 OS

MidPlane Tool - I can't figure out how it works.

It seems we also got an extra unlisted feature: a MidPlane tool (via the Menu bar: PowerPack:Draw:Midplane), but no documentation about how it works.
Anyone who knows how it works?
