Try selecting the skin sections where the first section starts at the beginning of the rail. Use the Verify : Direction to show the start of the rail.

Tim

Tim,

I havent tried doing this in VC but what would happen if the user could not define the section exactly where the start of the curve happened to be. Can the user easily move the seam point on the profile curve or what would they need to do please, if anything ?

Tim,

I dont have the guide skin solid tool to try, but the guide skin surface for this type of closed shape is a disaster currently.

I have just attempted to guide skin these cross sections.

First. Are the sfx files not compatible with VC pro, because VC pro became unresponsive. I gave it 10 minutes, but had to kill the process (I did try twice with same result).

I used the cross sections after converting them to iges. The first pic is the result from Guide skin surface from VC pro, which is certainly incorrect and needs to be thrown away. The second pic is the same cross sections/guide used in Rhino, giving results as expected.

Tim. You really need to sort this out.

FWIW, the branched solid tool is well behaved for this shape.

hello,

Thanks for yor reply.

But the branched solid tool not work with guide constraint.

see please the attach file.

The question is: why the faces internal surfaces is not vertical?

Same the splendid exemple with Rhino, see the file from Steve: 02.jpg

Interesting. The result does require separating and then stitching back before any shelling can be made, but the shape is reliant on what is produced and cannot be controlled via guides.

Well, I had a look at adding another guide, but with the same disastrous result.

I did add splines and then joined these, which gave further problem. After trying various I had the sections on 2 guides (joined splines),pic04. I decided to split the bottom spline to try and get the start position the same, but the spline endpoint just flew out into space when segmented, pic05.

I must say this is the buggiest CAD system I have ever used.

Poor old Tim! LOL! :D:D

I dunno though, you could try the aptly named "BRL-CAD", which is completely command-line based. However, I think the developer has been consumed by giant flesh-knawing ants

Most of the US military's hardware that was designed before the mid '90s was designed with BRL Cad. Very tough, but hard to use without training. Up until about five years ago, it was only available to US nationals, because theirs was the tax money that developed it. When the tax money dried up, so did the company.

I think I did look at that at one time. If I remember correctly the help file put forward building a model as a "Mission" .

We are already on a mission here, trying to get Tim to sort out VC shark.

Quite right. This buggy situation is quite unacceptable.
