I love my SharkCAD, but the lack of support and bug fixing make me uncomfortable on where the path goes. I tried BricsCAD for Mac, a disaster if you are familiar and used with VC/SC. Also only destructive modeling! The next candidate is Alibre Design, although for Widows only, users told excellent experiences with Parallels. However, Alibre is considering a Mac version.

I use Alibre now, it's great. Been using it for a few years now and never had any issues. ZWCAD is good, but you need to spend about 4 grand to get all the bells and whistles

It seems to me that the activity in this forum has decreased? Is it just the calm before the storm (V15) or is it something else ? kind regards Danny

Hi Garlic,
I'd like AI to explain the bugs, defects and failures without asking.
Or why not, to correct my mistakes in real time !
Maybe we need a stronger history tree before doing that...

Just tried to export a 2D PDF to send to my gasket manufacturer. Result: PDF is corrupted. Need to export in DXF and via online convert it to PDF... this in v14.
So THIS are small bugs that are very annoying. And we speak about v15 and A.I.
Come one, fist let's fix all the bugs!
BTW: As soon the new Mac Mini M4 will see the light I will get one. Install Parallels with Windows and get a license of Alibre Design. I'm too tired and pissed off with Punch not giving us a real robust, reliable software. I love my Shark, but I'm coming to my end of tolerance. And Alibre have a similar price cost as Shark.

Hi everyone,
I know it’s summer and things are a bit quiet, but I’m curious to see who’s still around. If you’re here, drop a quick hello or share your thoughts on the future of ViaCAD and SharkCAD. It’d be great to see who’s still active and keep the discussion alive!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards
Danny

well, thanks for bringing up this "eternal topic" - I am some kind of dinosaur in the cad arena and ages ago I was also quite familiar with this ancent and former famous flagship called "vellum", the new borne cad baby leading to this cad product called SharkCAD. So far the past still reaching out to the present. But what we need today is a rock solid, reliable cad product, an excellent tool to do our jobs and earn money. About the bugs, flaws, deficiencies....all this was reported here and described in detail. It is now - imho - highest time to deliver a very competitive product or to bail out. But I do hope for a convincing rebirth of SharkCAD !!!
Best wishes !!!

@GARLIC there is no other words we need to add, you just hit the nail on its head! I will not spend any more single cent for a v15 if the open bugs in v14 will not be 100% resolved. If I get to spend money, then for Alibre Design on Parallels (a total non-sense for a Mac user, but this constellation works more reliable than Shark native on Mac...).

Thanks, GARLIC and relaxibus, for sharing your thoughts. I’m also feeling a bit tentative about V15 and will likely wait to see others' responses before deciding.
If you’re still active, please say hello or share your thoughts. Let’s keep the conversation alive!
Best regards
Danny

I do share your opinion too.

I still like Shark very much because of the streamlined, easy, workflow. But slowly the competitors gain ground or overtake our user interface. Previews of chamfer or radius. Automatic presentation of possible operations when selecting an entity..... All that was once the home turf of Vellum,X,X, Shark! I'd like to see the development of the product line to focus more on the strengths than on a bit of this and that and now AI. Shark is a very very good tool for initial, conceptual, fast realisation of Ideas. But the bigger a project gets (100-150 Mb) the extraordinary slower the work is. So: please concentrate on the tools, bring them up to date, make them consistent (e.g.:always same selection scheme) and if you like AI, please hide entities from selection that are not suitable for the current operation! For additional future Features, I'd like to see a full, usable implementation of the once beta-startet mesh-modeling and the subsequent translation to usable solids/ surfaces. -Inverse kinematics for trying out mechanical Designs. (3D, live) -Simulation tools for structural and aerodynamic analysis. -working perspective view for quick, on the fly exporting of design status .... In general: tools that make it easy to explore, tinker and present your work - in other words: tools you need in the initial phase of projects or for small ones.
