I was working on my drawing and needed to create a BOM to hunt for solids of non-shell types and solids lacking a material type.

I didn't save the BOMs — that I know of.

But, my file ballooned MASSIVELY to 250MB from 77MB.

To reiterate, I didn't actively KEEP any BOMs to make them visible. But, many of the solids have BOM tables appearing in the Concept Explorer Entities tab.

There are some 772 solids that were exported to .txt, so, I think the file retained the BOM objects.

I already ran Compact. I ran Resolve Links.

Anyone know how to expunge them? Sny deep-reach to get my file back down to around 80MB.

Anyone?

Tim?

Is there any way not shown in the menus that a user can unwind the effects of a BOM export ballooning a file's size?

The file going from 77 MB to 250 MB could only have cone from two things I did:

— shelling and adding mass to geometry (highly unlikely, since I'd been doing that for weeks with mo dramatic increase in file size);

— selecting 772 solids and assigning mass props BOM export (as .txt, in my case), an effort that took multiple hours, and my not noticing until sleeping resuming work some 13 hours later).

This should not be something the user has to live with, not roll back to an earlier file state and redo hours of mass props work while remembering to avoid running another BOM output.

I tried the Remove links feature, but, it appears to work from the bottom property in a list on a given object, seemingly from Shell, then Sritched, then Child Links. I would not want to destroy the very shell work I'd just spent 4+ hours putting into place, nor the Stitched Solid.

There's no apparent way for the user to do, say, the equivalent of Batch..., with a deep-select, with, say, a specific attribute to be acted upon, such as, say, Remove all Child Links having BOM types of Mass Properties Attribute_ tables.

As things are, 772 solids all having more than 5 steps, and no in-built AI feature to automate that, and no external party being allowed access to the binary of the app means a user is expected to be spending multitudes of hours to overcome this problem.

Those of us who love SharkCAD should not be caused another reason to chafe and contemplate jumping to a competing app — especially free ones.

Please open up an add-ons or a utilities market. Please do things that make SharkCAD a revitalized, growling, teeth-baring app. (Preferably, with encrypted node/serial nbr binding, not monthly charges.)

Thanks in anticipation for you consideration.

Ok, I selected 688 solids and created a BOM. Took about 8 minutes, maybe, for the cursor to be released to do any operations in the app.

I applied a position, rhen a few minutes more for the table to alpear.

Saved the file. No material size change, up or down.

Selected the first curve related to the BOM table and removed the feature (the BOM).

Took a while for that to complete.

No material file size change up or down.

Deleted the remaining text. Saved the file. Still, no material fime size change.

Looked at the Entities tab on the Concept Explorer. Found this.

So, not only did every selected solid get a "Weight and Volume Table Attribute", deleting the BOM did not remove the BOM objects, and to my disappointment, the "Mass Properties Attribute" items were not removed on resolving links.

Prior to compacting, my 77 MB file that went up to 236 MB went to 259.921 MB.

After compacting, it became... 259.022

Removed the links on all solids, and the file size dropped to 232,627 KB.

Then, compacting the file brought down the file size to 228,923. Nowhere near 77 MB.

Of course, removing sll links on sokids that I may want to resize is a nonstarter.

Oh!

Major discovery (on my part, not that others haven't used this feature to good effect).

I checked File, Preferences, Filing, Settings: "Save compact files".

Then, I compacted the few (30 or 40) solids, then saved the file.

It dropped to 78,722 KB.

Hmmm. I wonder why compacting didn't have this effect.

For years, I avoided the "Save compact files" option because I think I had a bad file come out of it once. I could have been wrong and had a one-off bad experience that shouldn't have tainted my trust.

Hopefully, I didn't create (too much) drama.

Apologies if I did.

Sigh.

It's nice to see the file size compacted from 265,347 KB. But, turning off the "Save compact files" feature means the file resumes saving at over 265 MB.

Thing is, the 77 MB file was saving fine in incrementally small sizes before I did stuff with the BOM. I don't want to rely on "Save compact files" to cosmetically see small-sized files.

So, I still want to see a utility to dig out BOM table onjects without needing to compact and de-link things.

Converting the solids to surfaces actually increased the file saved size to 287,531.
