Tutorials, and file formats (#5133)

Hey all, My name's Jim and I am the dreaded new guy... am using via cad pro v9 on mac pro, osx 10.9.2. Am trudging up the learning curve (getting there slowly), and have a couple of what will undoubtedly be simple questions. First, other than the included tutorials, and a few relevant you tubes I've found, is there a recommended/respected training resource? I really want to get fluent in this. Second, is there a similar conversion capability between 3D file formats, like there are for graphics/audio file formats? I'd like to convert what appear to be 3D models, i.e., .3ds, .max, 3D Studio, .obj)... for printing. Haven't had any luck importing. Hope any of this makes sense... Thanks in advance for any help with this, jim

Hey Jim, Your name sounds familiar. Have I seen you on some other cad forum? Do you have experience in some other cad program? As for getting fluent, the Help PDF and the tips book that Tim published... Read them and memorize them. Then eat them! :D As for importing the various file formats, you'll have to experiment. I've found that stp is the best format for me to import, but then I'm coming from a system that doesn't use the ACIS kernel. Mike...

Gentlemen, I appreciate the replies! I've poured through the tutorials a bunch of times, and I still see new things, every time. I'll probably just call and ask, its just a couple of simple things, and I just need to know IF they can be done... then I'll figure out how. I wanted to join the forums here because I know it will be a good resource. And because I'm bound and determined to get jiggly in three dimensions. Mike, we haven't met before, at least not in any other 3D local. I've been illustrating for decades... but adding a dimension has me somewhat flabbergasted. I asked specific questions because I have a specific goal. I didn't (and don't) want to bore anyone with the details, not good form in a forum. Just trying to figure out if I'm headed in the right direction before I go too much farther:). Appreciate the advice, thank you! jim
