The title says it all: Make curve/surface intersection work with infinite planes. Would be such a time saver. And while we're at it: make Project Curve surface work with infinite planes too. Ciao, Norbert

This would work, if infinite planes were actually infinite. As it is, they are not, and often do not work predictably.

The double post ? I have found infinite (cutting) planes to be incredibly unreliable. Place the cutting plane on the object you want to cut, and it works well, but if the geometry is discontinuous, and some distance away from the plane (based on model complexity) then the cutting plane just does not cut, or gives a weird warning message. Because the tool is so unreliable I just don't bother to use it in anything but the simplest of models, preferring to use the trim solid with curve tool which is more reliable and does not leave me with two parts that then need to be managed separately or risk losing valuable history. My comment on Tim's comment refers to the tool may work as he intended - if it worked reliably. Unfortunately the tool is basically broken and has been for as long as I can remember, which may have prompted the original poster to make the request.

In all the years I've used Infinite Planes, I've not come across such an issue. If you can dig out an example of where it fails, please post it and let's get it looked at I'll keep a keen eye on it in the meantime

Doh, didn't know that. Kinda unintuitive, but that does exactly what I was looking for, thanx

Doesn't work for me. When prompted to select ONE surface or solid, I can't select an infinite plane.

Hi Norbert
Try using the project curve tool vs the project curve surface tool to project a curve to a infinite plane.

Hi Nick If you have an example that would be great in tracking down. Tim

I don't have an example of the infinite plane not being infinite. On the rare occasions that I use the Infinite Plane tool, and it is not infinite, I just find another way of doing what I am after rather than complaining about yet another age old bug. My fix is to copy the plane closer to the location I need to cut. I prefer to spend my time on productive tasks, and logging bugs mid stream is incredibly unproductive, especially when you know that they don't get fixed more than 90% of the time. Example: how many years have people been complaining about the broken perspective switch button ? (Answer; as long as the button has existed.) What is the priority for getting this fixed ? Will it get fixed in the next 6 months ? The next year ? My guess based on experience is no. Experience has taught me that the majority of bugs in CU and now Shark do not get fixed from release to release. Documenting them and complaining about them is like banging my head against a brick wall. One definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I prefer to protect my sanity.
