I've read some of the older threads and looked at 10-ten review.

Anyone use them? Any recommendations for a good, home 3d printer?

I think I'm gravitating towards the Replicator 2 right now.

Ultimaker 2 from Holland (I think) - is what I've heard is good

Beware - you may get into the inkjet dilemma (machine cheap, cartridges not)

On the other hand, I decided to keep using Shapeways as this tech is improving rapidly - and these guys are very cheap, very flexible and very responsive

I guess a picture helps, along with some background.

I built my own [URL="http://homemadeliquidnitrogen.com"]liquid nitrogen generator[/URL]. If you go to the third page, I believe, titled Temperature, there is a picture of the cryogenic thermometer that I am using for making the temperature measurements.

I have designed and built my own and am considering making a professional prototype. I was going to have someone design and print one for me. Then I thought I could learn how to design one. Hence, I got the Viacad software. Now I am thinking I could print one, too. If the prototype is good I can have a mold made. As you can see, the "box" is small. Probably no more than 100mm x 55mm x 15mm.

I would like to make the box out of ABS. I have no need to make hundreds of them; just a few for now. There are so many printers for sale I am unsure which is right, let alone good.

I am would like one that is wifi or SD card capable. This way don't have to be around a computer. Also, I don't want hot ABS fumes in my house. I would like the unit to be accurate. I would also like a reasonable build volume so I am not limited to small designs.

So, again, is there anyone out here that actually has a 3d printer and can give some advice?

If you only want a few pieces, you will have a better range of materials, more reliably made if you use bureaus to produce your pieces for you.

If I provide the stl file what do these services usually cost?

I understand there are variables
Maybe someone has a real example he can share

3D printing services are probably the best way to go if you need only a few parts and can wait for your turn in line. You do get a choice of materials, and they upgrade their expensive machines on a regular basis. If you create an STL file they can print it for you cheaper than traditional subtractive processes. You might also consider what you want to do with this gas cooler in the future.
Lastly, I have an idea for making an appliance. There are a few issues that stop me from taking the next step. One issue is creating a pure gas, the other is temporarily storing it.
I like your concept, and will keep it in mind as I to at many existing solutions to storing gas, such as compression.

before sending the STL to the 3D printing service you can analyze, repair and prepare for printing etc. with netfabb Studio, e.g. the free Basic version:

I've heard of this netfab before. Why doesn't Viacad or other modeling programs include this "repair" feature? Does this have something to do with translating the file from the native format to STL?

Yes is a good idea! But this option have a cost ! license fee - integration cost.
