Imagine it to demonstrate quasi-holographic or "human brain in the machine" to construct a house or a ship.

ALL the known parts should be in a database.

The project manager assignes people a "bin" and a virtual crane, welder, or spotter.

The user could just "lift" and position the parts and the computer automatically does the digital welding. But, the human looks for fit and process.

Instead of a designer positining a surface and moving it with a mouse, the user "grips" it and positions it and the intersection cuts it and all planar parts remain planar.

But, for walk-through and process documentation, it could be great. Imagine workers fitted with cameras (if signal can get through with the case of ships), and using this kinect type stuff to document construction. But, at the end, the "mesh" information could be purged while the "fitting" steps could be kept.

I'm still thinking this through, so what I wrote is just raw thoughts...
