I am trying to import a simple .dxf file that I saved in Inkscape into ViaCad 2d/3d. The only options I get when I click on import DWG/DXF are unit sizes. I've tried all five unit sizes. The program icon spins around like it is opening the file but then it stops like it is finished but nothing is visible (except for the grid and axis settings) and the file name stays untitled. The file is not opened. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if I did this properly but here is the zipped file. The file image is really just a test file. I've been trying to import DWG/DXF files without success.
When I went to zip the file, I see that my computer has listed the file as a Microsoft picture document not a .dxf even though Inkscape says it is a .dxf file. Maybe that is my problem.
Let me know what type of file you get when you open the file I've zipped. It's a spiral.
Thanks!

Hi, Bam
I tried opening your file in DWG trueview and that will not open it either it has an error. It looks like the file from Inkscape is not a good dxf file. Th file header does say its a dxf file from Inkscape. Did you try to export 2d objects like a couple of straight lines vs the spiral.
Did you try to read the dxf file back into Inkscape?
Regards
Jason

Hi Jason, Thanks so much for the link. That helps a lot. I did the test of making only straight lines and saved it in Inkscape as a .dxf file which opened just fine in ViaCad. I also found some old files (DWG/DXF) that opened fine with ViaCad, so the problem is with the Inkscape file. I also opened the spiral file in IrafanView (with DWG/DXF plugins) and it is visible but with broken lines. Also, "Did you try to read the dxf file back into Inkscape?" Inkscape doesn't import .dxf files, they export them. Thanks again.

you surely did a zoom all after importing the file...
I can import the (header-less) dxf flawlessly to our DraftBoard CAD: 176 splines and 1 zero-length line (see snap of according construction point at right side).
attached the drawing with the zero-length line removed and exported as DWG15 with the splines unchanged as well as a version with the splines converted to lines.

sure, you are not opening a DXF/DWG file but importing to an existing document.
