If you pick an edge and a face, the code is set up to roll the fillet around the vertex that touches the face. As Steve mentioned, its not intuitive but we could fix up the UI to make it more intuitive if this is a desired feature.

Normally when you blend two edges that are not G1/G2 it will put a crease along the join.

Yup it took me some time! The movie can't show a critical step necessary, holding the shift key. Also when I first tried I had to de-select Auto chaining, but that doesn't repeat!

Do the splitting, because it only works on 3 mutually intersecting edges.
Select Blend edge, radial and specify the radius, then holding the shift key select the vertical edge (the one the radius is going to roll around) then the face. My system cryptically asks me to 'Specify help position for blend' I just select the adjacent apex.

Hay presto a blend radius rolled around a sharp corner just like you can do with a CNC.:cool:

Bit of a bind though having to split the job into 4 then add it all back together again. Some folks are never satisfied:rolleyes:

Tim here is a crasher.

I open a clean copy of ViaCAD, open the attached file, select Blend, radius 0.05, hold shift, select edge B then edge A (other way around seems to work!). Processor has longer than normal think. System reports 'Application ViaCAD 3D Quit' [Close] [Report] [Ropen] Reopen seems to work, but not always. Repeats every time, but curiously only if I open a clean copy of ViaCAD! Sometimes won't Reopen. Sometimes Reopen is followed by an abrupt exit after a delay, or might be provoked by Dynamic rotate.

For me personally, I do not think I would actually need such a rolling blend around a sharp corner. It was just out of interest and learning that I was asking.

I am not seeing that problem on my setup.

If I select only edge A, then I get an Acis error of "inconsistent face-body relationship;Fillet_7032"

Can you confirm the C++ library you include in the VC installer.

I have just downloaded/installed the C++ sp1, that as now fixed the problem.

Not on the Mac, selecting single edges in any order works fine.

I have just found some time to look at the model. I am finding that the fillet_6505 is causing the error on my PC setup, the fillet is also creating another fillet along the adjoining edge (see attached image). When I reduce the fillet_6505 so it does not affect that edge then no more error.

There is no such additional fillet in the original posted model! Do you want an image?

Yes if I reduce the radius to 0.0746 then it works.

Actually it's not true that the original did not have the additional radius. It's just not visible at maximum zoom, but when I select the radius for modification the edge shows red so it is there:o

So why can I blend edge B with a single pick?

Also curious I can reinstate Fillet_6505 to 0.075 without the phantom re-appearing, and all still works! I guess the real question is where did it come from in the first place?

The line you see or rather edge has no fillet, this is something which Tim should answer but it looks to me like a visual bug ?

A visual bug would not give the errors seen when attempting to create other features. It looks like that edge is being added to the fillet feature.


Certainly one for Tim to look at.

Some clarification is in order.

1/ Opening the original file in a clean copy of ViaCAD - I can blend edge B without a problem. On the other hand, holding shift and selecting edge B followed by edge A causes a problem (crash as described earlier). Selecting the edges in the order A followed by B does not cause a problem. I do the clean open before every test so there is no doubt of prior condition. (essential, if tedious, debugging practice).

2/ The crash is subtle, presumably depending on previous activity. However the above procedure is repeatable. If I do one of the successful choices from 1/ above then use undo things change! The crash might repeat or not, or it might be more dramatic. immediate exit without message.

3/ I cannot comment about the likelihood of the graphics groll being the culprit, because I know nothing about the software. All I know is that doing blending of complex shapes is a ....... I have examples that work and those that don't. I have a successful blend of guide_yoke.vc3, but only after many hours of work!

This thread is a great help. When I get to the bottom I will post my results.
