When multiple items are selected could there not be a way say hold down shift and right click to get the right click menu to apply to all selected items instead of just the one you right clicked on. It would make it much easier to have right click items (color hide resolution and layer) work on multiple items at once?

I too would like this since i am anticipating moving slews if lines and geometry around in the evolution of my drawings. In line with your request would be a realization of drag-n-drop manipulation of layers so that updated source drawings imported can be 'stripped' of things that you may want to put on layers other than what they came in on.
