Struggling with imported models. I need to import a object and make a edit to the shape.. I figured i could do that by importing the STL and simply delete the part I don't need before printing a test print.

But, it turns out boolean tools do not "see" the object. I can't click on it to delete another shape from it.

tried converting it to a "solid" takes forever but no joy. Same result.

Is this possible.?

Hi Bo

Are the original models you are importing multiple parts or is it already one combined object when you import?

Hello Jason,

a flattened combined solid object.

:-) the system would not let me upload a actual STL, so I imbedded the two typical pieces in a ViaCAD VCP file instead.

The one is a scan of a monkey from a pencil at a Las Vegas Casino. "Scanned" with Strada Foto and saved out as a VRML (It have a texture wrap but that is another story as they say) typically I would want to delete some of the shape using boolean actions. to clean up the scan before we can print it on the zCorp printer for customer approval of the shape. The thing that is killing me is that I just can't figure out how to get to the next step and start to use these objects.

The other object. was created in ViaCad saved as a solid STL for printing on a UP! printer. but represent exactly a lot of the objects I am involved with. again, the problem is getting it to where I can delete from or add a shape to the imported shape.

PROGRESS

Export as OBJ or 3DS or STL

Import to ViaCad
(right click on object for menu)
Change object type to "SOLID" unclick "Use work layers"
wait for the processing.
Notice the object now change from "MESH" to "PART" in the Concept Explore.

Boolean away.. YEAH

CATCH.. seems to be - ViaCad crashes frequently on the change to SOLID process :D

Convert the object type to faces, then select them all and stitch-to-solid. Works for me.

Zumer,

Quick question - "where" :-)

stitch-to-solid - I can't find a function to stitch once I have all the faces selected. EDIT - found it in the boolean menu.. doh.
