Hi, I recently exported to dxf ACAD 2008 format (IIRC, but definitely not ACAD 12/14) a model i built in VCP 6, build 838. If i recall correctly, every item i saw in ACAD (2008) was on its own layer. I don't recall that there was a pattern or sequence to what flowed downward in the layer view, but there was no nesting or subnesting that resembled what was originally in VCP. But, still, this may be useful to those of you running FEM/FEA. As i understand it, if one builds a model in Rhino, the complexity of the model or number of parts to be surface meshed might determine whether or not one wants ALL of the parts on separate layers. So, this got me to wondering: Is there a way to cause an export that retains VCP-originated parts nesting or shifting so that upon import to Rhino or ACAD the parts stay on the layer drawn on? I was told by an architect that if you shift EVERYTHING to its own layer, you end up with a lot more surfaces to manage/analyze. It's more of optimization that you go for. (An aside: One thing in noticed in AC2008 was that my solids retained information that they were solids, but while ACAD retained colors of my parts and most of the centers/moment information, it discarded the weight/density and material properties. There is in AC2008 an ability to texture and assigne such properties, but not density. It keeps a density of "1", and this is annoying as one would have to export or copy/paste the massprops information and work on them in a spreadsheet. I REALLY REALLY appreciate that VC 2D/3D & VCP present the information in a much more user-friendlier way than AC. End.)
