Hey Gang,
I'm trying a modification to the Dome shape on this thread to get to what looks like a cap.
http://forum.punchcad.com/showthread.php?t=1959 I'm pretty much following the vid to the nail. The net surface gives me a better approximation to what I would like for the final surface but I get a gap between two N curves and no matter which first N curve I choose. Here's a video for your eyes and the file.
I tried the cover with guide but I get bumps and dips in areas unanticipated. I've also tried the guide skin surface but got bad results I won't even mention. Anyhow, is there something I'm doing wrong? I also filled the gap with another net surface but the surface continuity is offset and visible when rendering or no rendering. Any suggestions!
Cheers,
Ernesto

Hi Ernesto
Does attached work? I stayed with your net surface approach but made a copy of the start curve to close the shape. (one more N section added)

I like your approach. Never, in a million would I have taught using a replicated N curve to close the gap on top of using a point as an M curve. I think this duplication of curve and the point approach is already too far to be grasped by one of ordinary skill in drafting. How about making this more easier by just selecting all M and N curves at once? Just a thought.

Ernesto

Hi Tim,
I'm having second thoughts about this approach. When I make into a solid I cannot shell. I tried duplicating the opposite N line instead and managed to get shell to work that but the end result is not correct. See picture. I've noticed that the surface becomes distorted near the point at the duplicated line no matter which N line gets duplicated. Do you have a way around this? The distortion is not visible at first. You have too zoom a bit before making into a solid. also after shelling, the inner edge becomes dark at two spots and the bottom way distorted.
Shelling at .08"

Well, I decided to take matters into my own brain.
I changed the m and n curves, split the profile, and added two points and this game me a terrific result. I think I got the grasp of m & n curves given that I took discrete calculus and I was one of four students.
Anyhow, I made a video given that my video trial version is almost due.
Enjoy.
and yes, I can shell the darn thing. Good grief.
