How can you edit a material, save it, and then apply it to other objects? If you edit the material of an object it only affects that object an not the rest of the objects of that same material. Furthur, there is no way to save the material changes to the library from the edit to be apply to other objects. From within the libray you can create a New material, but not go back and edit it.

In application I am trying to render a wood desk. I can modify the appearance of one of the parts but can't apply it to the other parts without rememering all of the setting changes and applying them to each part individually. I must be missing something since I searched the forum and no one else is noting this obvious problem. I've used the Punch home design programs and they have it covered with the eye dropper functionality that everyone is familiar with from many graphics programs.

I'm using ViaCad Ver.9

I assume you can use the eye dropper command to copy material properties among any part.

I think it just copies the solid model color and not the rendered material. Logic would have the material eye dropper within the material library along with the other icons for material application as well as within the material editor.

Found the eyedropper under the deep select tool and was able to select and pply material. You can window select new items to apply to which is handy. Little or no mention of it use or functionality in the user guide that I could find.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm adding in documentation for this feature in the Shark/ViaCAD manuals, plus adding into the tips/tricks book.

I cannot find any information about how to use the eye dropper in the latest downloaded manual.

Can someone explain how to use it as it does not appear to work the same way as it does in Photoshop.

Thanks
Brian

Hi Tim,
I had an idea, it should probably go into he suggestions section but it relates to this UI issue.
Maybe, the eye dropper icon can change from the current icon to a different one to show that it is ready to apply?
For example, remove the red from the eyedropper graphic and have a colored drop coming out to apply?
Another idea is to have the icon temporarily change to a paint brush?
Just a few ideas.
