Hello.

During installation you are being asked (at least on Windows)
if you want to install PDF Creator and Acrobat Reader.

Or do you want to publish to a 3D PDF ?

Then we should talk about investing money, for example in

OSX or Windows?

under OSX it's already integrated in the OS, under Windows you need to print (no to export) to a PDF by installing a PDF printer driver as e.g. the free eDocPrintPro or a complete PDF suite as e.g. the free Nitro Reader etc.

The paper layout (size/orientation) as well as the drawing scale needs to be configured for doing this.

For creating 3D PDFs you may want have a look at the commercial tetra4d 3D PDF Converter.

don't try this at home, it's ol' stuff... go for the current versions if required.

*iirc* several versions of the PDF Creator are trying to install a toolbar during installation, therefore keep an eye on the installer options for disabling this.

IronCAD offer a free program called Compose, http://www.ironcad.com/index.php/products/ironcad-compose
that produces 3D pdf, amongst other things. Pretty fat download, 500Mb, but good quality app. Works with .obj, .stl, .dxf and vrml files as a free app, IGES, STEP and other non-facet CAD import is a for-pay option. One thing is that there's an announcement on the download page that implies it doesn't work with Windows Home editions - it does. Only Win, I think.

Yes, and I've never gotten it to work (properly). With any other application I have been successful in printing a PDF with Mac OS. I've spent dozens of hours experimenting with multiple settings. The PDFs that are created are missing many elements and are distorted.

I have also tried “Print By Layer”. The Start and End layer choices are blank, and it will not allow me to make any selections.

I currently have a drawing that I would like to email as a PDF. I can't do it.

Using ViaCAD V8 and Mac OS 10.6.8

I'm not aware of issues with 2D PDF export on Mac. If this is still a bug please log a bug report with an example file and steps to repeat.

I do this everyday, using "print as pdf file" on the Mac : simple & nice.

One thing to know :
the drawing lines must be set as pixels (one or 2 pixels), not metric mm (a bug makes the line weight huge on pdf...).
