PDF export problems (#4407)

Hi, I've been exporting PDFs in letter size no problem because they're all smaller scaled drawings. Suddenly I switch to full size and since its all furniture it's pretty big. The PDFs I'm trying to export have borders that are life size (1:1). So what happens when I print-to-pdf of this scale? Well I can open my freshly exported pdf on my mac in preview and it shows up exactly how I exported it, but when any factory gets it or anyone else opens it, all they see is a blank page. Can anyone help me please determine what I need to do to make this work? Thanks!!

You need to create a custom paper size in the printer exactly as the page setup used, i.e, D, E, or what ever size it is, in shark. Export to .pdf and you are set. I had a beef one time with this as it would not export some text while everything else exported fine.

Rockyroad, thats the problem. I have indeed been creating custom sizes, but when I export a size that's way bigger than my printer can print, it comes out blank (and the custom size is gone) when opened on anything but preview on my own mac. I have a printer that only prints up to letter size (its a cheap b/w laser), and I go into custom sizes to create a substantially larger unorthodox size, yet still comes out blank when opened by anyone else. Even if I open it in Acrobat Reader instead of Preview, it comes out blank. Please help.

Can you only export based on a preset page size that the printer is capable of?

No. I do 43x33 as custom. Both the page setup and the custom have to match.
Sharkfx scales the model properly for me. I usually don't check preserve annotation sizes as any fonts get rescale which I don't like.

Thanks again Rockyroad. I think what was happening was that I was not matching the page setup with the custom layout. Hopefully this will fix it - I'll check it out now.

I've never gotten Print to PDF to work (properly). With any other application I have been successful in printing a PDF with Mac OS. I've spent dozens of hours experimenting with multiple settings. The PDFs that are created are missing many elements and are distorted. I have also tried “Print By Layer”. The Start and End layer choices are blank, and it will not allow me to make any selections. I currently have a drawing that I would like to email as a PDF. I can't do it. Using ViaCAD V8 and Mac OS 10.6.8
