Not sure if this type of thread is already up somewhere so I apologize in advance if it is.

I'm rather curious what fields of work make use of VC/Shark on here. Also what tools could be added that might help make what you do any easier/better?

My industry is mass-market residential furniture - very low end stuff that ships in a flat box. Made of anything from solid wood to mdf/laminate, plywood to honeycomb boards which are all quite simple to develop within Shark and then turn into production drawings drama-free (most of the time). Tools that would greatly increase my productivity include 3d constraining and a 2d/3d fastener parts library built in.

Mine is self attendance kiosks for sevices as info, payments, signage, advertise and others.

We offer Industrial design for this one's as well as industrial equipments, furniture and object's conceptualization.

Most of them are made with sheet metal, some plastic covers, including hardware integration that comes with electrical wiring, electronics settings and software development.

We offer the whole package, design from scratch, prototyping and production runs.

I use Shark for modeling, concept development and 2d drawing plans (yes, I do this on shark), when the model is ready, then the sheet metal works and setup is done on solidworks, bobcad-cam and other CAM software that came with the machines.

Sheet metal tools and better performance on model to sheet features in shark will allow me to get rid of Solid Works. :)

I do mostly aerospace/defense parts and design, special simulator hardware, transportation parts and design , industrial design.
My little company is specialized in fast concept realization and fibre reinforced structures up to the size of a big car / small aircraft....
Shark made us really fast, compared with the full blown systems like ProE or Catia found in bigger companies. We were always able to exchange data better then e.g. the solidworks guys.
It changes a bit in the moment, with subdivision modeling tools in the big systems already working, and direct editing not only for radiuses and moving solid walls but even to freeform geometries...

Nevertheless Shark is still our first choice because of the lean, straight, fast way to geometry.

I'm a one-man-band designer/model-maker/fabricator/drafter. I'm never going to be Marc Newson, but I've been the go-to design-and-build guy orbiting a cadre of smaller companies run by friends/associates for two decades. I've done diverse things, some of them memorable like vehicle mirrors (cosmetics, mountings, molds, motorisation and documentation), design and tooling, for concept vacform packaging, satellite dish construction (CNC breakdown and construction of commercial kitsets, up to 7.5m), design and MDF tooling for PVC piping furniture, 2D/3D documentation for military, general aviation parachute, training and safety harnesses for OHS, among others. Retail consumer CAD doesn't do specialised verification stuff like FEA or dynamics, but today, for geometry creation, it's hard to find ways in which it's less capable than recognised commercial/industrial CAD (time-saving automation aside, and most "new tools" wanted will boil down to be some type of automation). You don't even see time-based modeling challenge shootouts between apps these days because there's always the chance that someone will innovate some methodology in an app they're familiar with and produce an unpredictable result.

hello,

I have a workshop of industrial design and I am active in the areas: products design, timepieces, watches making, museums, ...
wide scale of my projects ... 1mm at 50m.

I use this software since 1997.

I have not yet on Mac, found better, for modeling free solid / surface.

I am also a professor and teaches CAD software to many students. It has the advantage of having an approach and excellent ergonomics for the modeling work. This greatly facilitates the educational instruction of 3D.

Here are the strengths and weaknesses of this software:
It is only my opinion. And I hope it can help for development.
(MacOS X Intel)

+, The price competitive enough.
+, Ergonomics in 3D modeling.
+, Solid modeling power wire.
+, Interface and snap.
+, Blending power tools.
+, Easy bridge between solid / surface / wireframe.
+, Work assistance, with the description of actions during the modeling.
+, Still several possible ways to get the result.
+, The selection mask.
+, Excellent adaptation to the needs of the industrial designer.
+, Intuitive approach, CCAD concept.
+, The clarity and legibility of the icons.
+, The user forum and chat directly with developers. Active and fun community :) thank you!

but---

- Excellent software we know IF ANY disease, ... and not going crazy ...
- The rendering module is to throw it away. go in the trash.

- The gateway 3d ---> to model sheet is too, too buggy. (My main criticism)
(I sometimes feel that the developers have never used their product to make a design work ---> real, because it is on a real project that signs of limitations and thus, resolve bugs or slow.)

-, Step example:
Model sheet --- to> customize the technical 2d ---> edition hatching, lines attributes ---> change the 3D geometry ---> refresh of the plan --->
Any customization of our technical 2d, lines, hatching is again with the default attributes!! a horror ....

- It lacks a library of screws, bolts 3d ---> parameter.
-, Unable to work on a surface that has undergone changes, it reverts to its original.
-, Lack of flexibility in surface modeling.
- SharkFX is not made for big jobs with much items. for example:
50 components, it becomes unmanageable, the software becomes too slow and crashes regularly.
- Animation tools: too complicated, it lacks usability.
- The addition of ... toys for architects ... completely outdated.
-, Crashing repeatedly for 16 months,

and THE worst: corrupted files ----> unable to retrieve his file.
(Tip: Register with increment: projet0, project1, project2, etc. and do not forget the backup function) many hours of work lost.

- The orientation of Punch! to a customer amateur ... They neglect professionals.

- Slow to get a stable version of V.8 WITHOUT bug.
-, Fixing bugs, and the appearance of other bugs ... already solved in the past.

Tim?, Would not it time to review all the code and clean up the software?

Thank you, these criticisms are my own.

Freelance Industrial Designer. I've had the opportunity to work on Consumer Electronics, computer input devices, Fiber Reinforced (carbon fiber) road and mountain bike frame sets, bike graphics, vehicle Fuel grade ethanol system, mobile phones, and a few other odds and ends over the years. I don't have a shop, just a garage with basic tools, and out source (locally if possible) most parts work. I've been utilizing 3D print services for a few years now with good results. I have to use SolidWorks because many of my clients need SW files for workflow considerations. For visualizing finished products I use Cinema 4D and KeyShot.

I'm a new drafter from Nova Scotia Canada and I am looking for a fellow drafter in my Province to assist me with using Via Cad Pro. I am having a great deal of difficulty. My employer is willing to pay for this help.

Have you had a chance to watch the tutorials online?
What kind of issues are you having difficulty with?

I help out in Clean Room & Lab Equipment designs.

I have not yet used Shark FX to its fullest because the company is still in 2D drawing mode.

You should entice them to a 3d model. Once they see one they won't go back to 2d. He he.

I usually give them a 3d .pdf irrespective of any cad program.
