Great video made by Nick Johnson of CADSoft Solutions UK. Some of the interesting features it shows includes:

1. Using an image to trace
2. Pipe tool
3. Rail sweeping
4. Lofting
5. Shelling

wow! what a tutorial!

You know what though, here's a classic example where Shark could be partnered with something like COMSOL Multiphysics, for getting some FEA into those tubing joints. :)

I spent a lot of time chatting with COMSOL while I was doing my degree. I might write to them again, to mention Shark.

With one exception, I would have liked a voice overdub- with some clues to which tools are being used and why. Also some explanation of any key commands, and ways of achieving specific results- like sketching on specific axis etc. :D

Tom,

why not just ask the questions?

On the sketching to specific axis, do you mean where the Ellipse was draw around the line? as all you need to do is after the Ellipse tool is active is to move the cursor over the line you want to draw around, then when you see a snap (such as "On" or "Mid" show on the line), then just press shortcut key C which on the first press will make the work plane move to Z along the line.

If anyone has any ideas about other parts they'd like to see modelled drop me a line and if I'll see what I can do, no promises though ;-)

I also have lots of other movies I've knocked up for both clients and prospects over the past 18 months or so, they're a little rough hence why they haven't been posted but if there's enough interest I guess I could upload some of them to YouTube or something?

All the best
Nick

Nick, uploading to Youtube, sounds like a great idea! At the moment I can only find 3 Shark related videos on youtube- there are hundreds for the other CAD apps. It doesn't matter if videos look a bit rough. Any info is good info :)

Also searching for Shark comes up with, err, Sharks!

Probably a good idea to establish standard keywords so that both posters and viewers maximize search efficiency.

I would naturally do a search on Shark CAD, or SharkCAD and I know others would search ViaCAD.

Tom,

The work plane (or construction plane) is something I use/change more than anything in VC. It can be a bit confusing at first, but it is worth spending time and seeing how it works and can be moved around, as it makes what could be a difficult construction much easier.

No problem.

I know the user manuals are not always helpful, or they can assume certain knowledge is already known. You should just ask if unsure of anything. We all started not knowing anything (well apart from some who have always known everything :D) I very rarely look at the user manual, unless a tool is not behaving/ giving expected results.

There is this "Tips and Tutorials" section, but I admit I have no idea as to what kind of info to post, or even what kind of info users are actually looking for. I suppose I could sort out a screen capture software to make some little help movies, but would need questions, or at least direction of what is wanted first.

Steve, I'd love to see a tutorial on how you made your teepee :)

Is that possible?

Jing looks pretty good Norbert (both Jing and Audacity are dual platform to boot) :)

Don't laugh, but if Tim wants to make a nice front end trailer film for showing off both Pro and consumer packages, for YouTube for example, I, believe it or not am an ex-signed musician, and I've still got plenty of stuff that has never been released (my 3rd LP for eg!). I could let Punch use it royalty free. (A copy of Shark FX in return eh folks?? ;) )

If you want to hear more of my released stuff, here you go! :o

Tom,

Sorry, have just seen this request/question of yours.

when I made that teepee it was a little long winded in my approach, but I will look at making a vid to show its construction. (but will make a smaller model to keep the file size down).

Thanks for the bike tutorial. I would love to hear it with audio. For a newbie like myself explanation of why things are done the way they are would be highly beneficial. Eitherway, beggars shouldn't be choosers so, I'm happy for the video as it is. :)
